I was flipping through channels and flipped to Rutgers-Pittsburgh.

First thought: Why are they playing a conference game so early in the season?

Second thought: Doh. This is 2019, not 1999, and the graphic says, "Big Ten/ACC Challenge".

04-cheers

Missouri St coach now in the postgame interview after their Murray game:
“I have no idea why Murray St isn’t in the Missouri Valley.”

Ha. Neither does anyone else.

and that's why the RPI is gonezo. They gamed the system with not 1, not 2, but 3 d2 games.

Whereas Temple under McKie can somewhat validate or ease the pain on the decision to move on from Dunphy, there is no way the Philly press is going to allow Saint Joe's to hang this season's issues on Martelli.

The holiday weekend, including the month's opening, wasn't exactly kind to the A10. 5-9 from Thursday onto Sunday.

Kent State 92
Detroit 57

Great program there in the motor city. They just need a better conference than Horizon to show it...

Yeah, Temple has looked pretty good with McKie. 6-1 with a likely Q1 win @ USC and a solid 2nd good win vs Davidson that should be Q2 at worse end of the year. Big Game on Saturday with Missouri.

And yeah, great point about St Joeseph's and the Philly press.

Yup. The other day NAU was #5, one spot ahead of Arizona who beat NAU by 40.

How did that happen? NAU has been undefeated since, including two sub DI wins -70 and 40 point blowout wins.

RPI is a bad measure when there is little data

This one is an absolute baffler. As we all know, for the past however many seasons, Virginia has suffered many games in which it score fewer than 50. But a mere 40 points? I just don't get it.

And on a similar theme ... the Tar Heels losing to Ohio State by 23 in Chapel Hill with 3:30 to go. As a long-time UNC follower conditioned to seeing high-scoring offenses from Roy Williams, this is sad.

Vegas hates Virginia at this point. Both teams haven't been great against the spread, but something had to give with this one.

Can't think this shouldn't have happened. UVA hasn't scored much even against bad teams. Their defense is what burns you.

Big Ten is going to break NET. Monster non-conference they've had. Here's to the likelihood of more sub-.500 teams in the top 50-70 by the end of conference play.

Elsewhere...

San Francisco 76
Cal 64

Chicago State 89
SIU-E 81
On the road. Chicago State won't break the 56-game record road losing streak...this time. Bigger question is, when you average about one win a season against D1 teams over the last four seasons, is this it for them for 2019-20?

Any idea when the NCAA will start publishing the current NET rankings? I remember last year they started doing it mid-November. I'm guessing they're holding off due to the backlash they received the first month or two from the rankings being so poor due to the small sample size.
