Stetson stuns South Carolina in Columbia, 63-56. If anyone can figure out the riddle known as South Carolina men's basketball, let me know. How can you win impressively at Clemson and Virginia, but lose at home to Boston University and Stetson? Hatters improve to 6-9. Gamecocks are now 8-5.

Youngstown State, like Western Illinois have been long-suffering D-1 members with no NCAA tournament appearances to show for their fans. Penguins go to 2-0 in the Horizon League after a 70-64 win at UIC. Flames fall to 7-9. YSU is 9-6.

Also in the Horizon, Green Bay took its losing record to Highland Heights and shocked a lackluster Northern Kentucky team, 73-59. The Phoenix 'rise' to 6-9. The Norse fall to 9-5.

It's really a missed opportunity that Stetson's nickname isn't the Mad Hatters.

You noticed that too? Stetson usually has a pretty decent basketball team and usually has a solid baseball team. But still, the soma of the aroma that comes with this loss isn't pleasing to the nostrils at all.

On the other hand Arkansas had a nice road win!

One more to close out 2019...

Washington Adventist (NAIA) 78
Delaware State 76

Vegas made Missouri a 33-pt. favorite over Chicago State. Almost beat CSU by 60. But, still didn’t hit the total (137). It’s almost like Vegas doesn’t know how to place on these games. Virginia still confounds them...3-9 ATS. Vegas starts setting lower totals for the games, as UVA was 2-8 before the last two games, and then blow past the totals by around 20 each of those games. You could have made some good money in this season’s non-conference.

Well, Mad Hatters would only apply if they sprung an upset or two in March. Unfortunately, Stetson have NEVER made the NCAA's as a D-1 school (and I think they've been in Division 1 for about 60 years now).

Almost forgot. Washington Adventist, the team that beat Howard on opening night last month, did it again to another MEAC team. Delaware State lost at home to WAU, 78-76. Talk about a crummy way for a basketball team to end a year! Well, if you're Del State, anyway.

Thanks for the DSU update. I posted right after you did, Bish.

Florida A&M beat Iowa St tonight. Became 3rd team this season with a 1% chance in Ken Pom to win this season- joining Evansville(Kentucky), and Stephen F Austin(Duke).

Just heard from Jet915 that it was FAMU's 1st Ken Pom top 200 win.... this entire decade...

By BPI, the biggest upset in 12 years.

Iowa State was favored by 25.5. Florida A&M hasn't played at home yet. Last season their only nonconference home games were non-Division I. Two seasons ago they hosted North Florida but still played 10 home games, 22 away games, and 2 neutral site games. They could play more nonconference away games in one year than some teams do in a decade.

RE: Laughable Scores- College Basketball- December
Iowa State was playing without their leading scorer, Tyrese Haliburton. Still, you'd think they had plenty of firepower without him to beat a MEAC team at home. Of course, the Cyclones have a history of losing to MEAC teams too (Hampton in the NCAA first rounder years ago in Boise). This is a tough time for some college teams playing at home. The students are still on break for another 1-3 weeks, so campuses are pretty dead. Hometown fans and alumni are the most likely spectators for games around the holidays.

For FAMU, every game should feel like an NCAA Tournament affair since the Rattlers are on probation and won't be allowed to participate in the MEAC Tournament for the second straight year.

Illinois State 76, Northern Iowa 70---UNI was 11-1 coming into this game (only loss to West Virginia by 5) and held a 10-point halftime lead in Normal. But the Redbirds dominated the second half for the win to move their record to 6-7 overall.

Air Force 105, UC-Riverside 56---Given the way their seasons were going, I sure didn't expect to see a rout like this! UC-R is now 9-6. The Falcons go to 7-7.

Butler 60, St. John's 58---Two totally different games in one. Butler blew out to a 37-16 halftime lead. The Red Storm came back to lead 58-57 late, then Butler hit a three with :13 to play to win the game.

BTW, Happy New Year, posters!

That UNI loss was huge. Just dropped from 22 to 66 in NET. They won’t be getting help in the conference as the season wears on.

Georgetown misses one of their best players and gets smashed by Providence 76-60. Was 54-23 at halftime. Georgetown sees their NET drop from 29 to 53.

Yeah, Cincy was #89 and UConn was #62 in the NET going into the game.

Cincy has a chance to be 4-0 heading into Memphis in 2 weeks...
