It was the most points Utah had given up this season. Only in their 3 losses and to UW did they give up more than 17.

As a head coach, Tom Hermann is a GREAT offensive coordinator. The Texas defense finally played the way they were capable of. 3 weeks to recuperate helped, but they seemed to be more basic and not as fancy as they had been all season. And Utah didn't have the passing game to burn them.

When I was watching, I heard Hermann was upstairs calling the plays after replacing coaches. Not a great sign for Hermann.

Hermann was on the field. He fired the D coordinator and reassigned the O coordinator. The new ones have been selected but haven't started yet.

In the original post I mentioned that Utah had struggled with more athletic teams this year, but I didn't mean that as a diss. It's really a testament to how good their coaching was, winning a bunch of games with pedestrian talent.

Let's face it: It's tough to beat teams that have better athletes than you, and it's tough to get top recruits to come to SLC.

That is generally true. Utah did steal a recruit from Ohio State recently, a four star cornerback out of California. The kid had committed to Ohio State but decommitted and changed to Utah. I think that he may regret that decision.

As far as the Pac-12 being "highly overrated," how does anyone determine that? The Pac-12 went 5-1 against the Big 10 this season. Does that make the Big 10 "highly overrated?" After Clemson, who scares you in the ACC? The Big 12 has not exactly been on fire in the postseason. The computer program that thinks they are the best conference in college football definitely needs a software upgrade.

Pac-12 football has it's issues, starting with USC football and ending with UCLA football. According to Rivals rankings of the top 100 players in California, the top 15 are all going out-of-state. USC's top recruit in California is ranked No.25. UCLA's top recruit is ranked No.36. If you can't keep your top talent at home, you have no chance. In 2015, six of the top eight recruits in California either went to USC or UCLA. Only two went out-of-state. That should be a typical year of recruiting in California, not what is happening now.

USC only has something like 11 scholarships this year. That is some impact. None of the top 15 is not good, but the very top players are getting recruited nationally now, like in basketball. I think that is much more the case than even 10 years ago. There were schools like Notre Dame and Tennessee that recruited nationally, but now all the top programs will chase, say, a top QB in California.
