The Florida 4 (North Florida, Jacksonville, Stetson, and Florida Gulf Coast) work out well as rivalries.

Liberty is the odd man out. Their situation is unique and their relationship with the conference is very different than the other members.

Unfortunately, the ASUN is always in flux so it’s difficult to get relationships and rivalries established.
Has been true, but I actually think the ASUN is more stable now than a very long time. NJIT was not really a surprise, that was the best thing that could happen for them.

Kennesaw going somewhere will not happen for a while, if it does.

Liberty, while joining the ASUN out of necessity, seems happy for the most part, yes they would definitely take a spot in an FBS conference if it arrives, but realistically, what conference will go after them? I think their mission may be better served as an indy, personally.

Lipscomb will have 2 schools within 2.5 hours of them, and Lipscomb and UNA has some good rivalry potential.

UNA will likely not leave the ASUN as long as football has a solution. SoCon will not invite them, Southland is a no, and, unless things have changed drastically in the past year or so, UNA would not give the OVC a second look.

Bellarmine, from what I have heard (from a very small sample size) wants to be in a southern based conference.

Realistically, the Florida schools as a whole, probably will not move at all.

I think for Liberty, Lipscomb is the most natural rival. UNF is developing into a very chippy series so that one has potential.

RE: RIVALRIES
I believe, given time, Lipscomb and Bellarmine will be Liberty’s top rival. And either UNF or FGCU will round out the top three.

the other LU and Bellarmine are both privates and both border states.

Outside of Kennesaw, other LU and Bellarmine are the closest teams to Liberty.

RE: RIVALRIES
Lipscomb has given Liberty the most trouble so far so they are my pick for current rival but it will take a few years to really get something developed with anyone. There is nobody geographically close to enhance a rivalry quicker.

I also agree that Liberty is essentially alone in that everyone else has a natural partner to become rivals with. We're on an island until membership changes.

I think competitive rivals is grossly underappreciated....

My example is Alabama and LSU... they are a rivalry of the highest levels, but they are not really geographical rivals.

Liberty will develop that kind of rivalry with someone really quickly if all keep on track.

RE: RIVALRIES
I like the fact that the conference has up opening the conference season with Lipscomb and closing with Bellarmine. I think they nailed it on that one.

Same way with UNA, open with FGCU and end with Lipscomb.

UNA and FGCU have been very competitive and chippy at times since UNA joined in both men and womens.

UNA and Lipscomb are natural rivals being 2hrs apart. Have had some good games as well.

It would make sense, it just hasn't developed yet. Seems like others are developing faster on the court.

Football will not take long at all.

RE: RIVALRIES
Our bighest rivals...

75 Games - Radford (34-41) 1974-2019
65 Games - Charleston So. (36-29) 1988-2017
62 Games - UNC Ashville (22-40) 1991-2017
58 Games - Winthrop (18-40) 1991-2017
55 Games - Coastal Carolina (29-26) 1988-2015

Pretty much the only two of those I’m still interested in playing are Radford and the Beach Chickens.

31 VMI (15-16)
17 Va. Tech (3-14)
9 Virginia (2-9)
9 JMU (2-7)
8 VCU (1-7)
4 ODU (0-4)
4 Ricmond (1-3)

ASUN play begins in less than a week!

04-rockBeat oLU!04-rock
04-rockBeat oLU!04-rock
04-rockBeat oLU!04-rock

There’s only room for one LU in this conference and that is taken by Liberty University. Just refer to that other school as other LU.
I expect the Flames to BBQ some overgrown cow on the 1-2 Jan and serve a healthy portion of steak to all.

RE: RIVALRIES
I’d say our bowl game against the Beach Chickens and the interest and reactions from their fans shows that rivalry is still alive and well. Now the ADs need to get together and achedule us in multiple sports.

I'm sure they will...

It was a fun game to watch.

3-1 against the Wild Cows was a success, but danged if we didn’t let that first men’s game slip through our fingers!
