This team doesn't have the offense or talent to beat UK, Texas, and Memphis. The only way I can see possibly one win is that UAB muck it up so badly it throws the other team out of sync and you get an ugly unbalanced game.
Otherwise, Eshan hasn't shown he can beat a decent team much less a ranked team.
I love UAB basketball. I Remember deep ncaa runs and highly competitive games, including regular wins, against national powers. The BYU game. The Virginia game. The Great Alaska Shootout. Beating Cincy and Huggy Bear on a tip in. Multiple Kentucky wins. Even North Carolina and Iowa State. There have been a number of remarkably fun UAB basketball eras, some not so long ago.
But this era is not one of those.
I have seen nothing in the past three years to give me a legit reason to believe our team will win any of the three big games ahead. The closest Ive seen was the Auburn game. But we lost to Troy. Troy. Last year. At home. With Zach Bryant on the floor. And to Utah Somewhere this year. Again on our home floor.
This years team does two things well; execute solid defense and rebound aggressively. Those are good and commendable traits, among a team full of hard working, good guys. But not enough to contend for anything. Even in a weak CUSA. Not fun.
I predict we keep it close for a half in two of these three games,’but fade in the second half of each as foul trouble sets in, our point guards tire,’and they figure out our defensive rotations and passing lanes. .
But I hope Im wrong, and instead they win all three, and that catalyzes a Tavin Lovin led UAB team to a shocking conference championship and an inspiring ncaa run, and Ehsan stays and proves in the seasons ahead to be the best coach and recruiter to ever lead a Blazer team onto the court and we turn down an offer from the American Conf to accept a membership in the Big 12.
All of that, maybe any of that, would be amazing and most welcome and fun. But absolutely no trends or tendencies to date suggest any of that will happen under this staff.
