RE: Game 8 - Buffalo
As I and others have pointed out since well before the season, this is a fearsome, difficult road schedule
this new team has and is facing...with six of the next eight games still on the road (and 12 of 15 to begin the season).
And Buffalo is a highly successful program, having made the NCAAs four of the past five seasons, with more than 30 wins last year!
Plus for the past four games we've played without a starting guard who was off to a great start only to see him in a boot now.
Actually, 5-3 is beyond what I or any level-headed follower of W&M hoops had a right to expect. You just don't easily win road games in college basketball.
The six road games remaining before this demanding stretch, perhaps the toughest in years, include
Fairfield, St.Joseph's, and three CAA foes to commence the season (Elon, Hofstra, and Northeastern),
all challenging opponents, especially on the road. If we split the six we'll be doing well.
So it would be wise to look at this crazy schedule realistically and not treat losses during this stretch as
the end of the world.
And it would help to get Scott back.

Scott being out has allowed Loewe to get more shots and it looks like we've got something there. He was horrible on offense the last two years and now he's a consistent threat to take it to the hoop or pull up.

He (Loewe) never takes a bad shot.Something the rest should take notice of.

To emphasize the difficulty of our schedule Fairfield, one of our upcoming road games, just defeated Texas A&M this afternoon. There are no easy wins on the road.

Anybody know if the team made it out of Buffalo with the weather issues and back home to the 'Burg?

Nothing for sure, but I'd guess there would be some kind of comments on social media about the hold over. I didn't see anything like that.

This level-headed follower of W&M hoops expected to be watching the deepest team in W&M hoops history in the running for a Dance ticket under the former coach.
The “end of the world” happened in March, 2019.
The current coach has his work cut out for him, with an horrendous schedule and no room for injuries. He gets a total pass from me for the next five years, because next year is a return to the dark ages.
Didn’t have to be this way, but here we are.

I try not to think of the 2020 roster. There will be a lot of holes to fill, particularly at C/F and we need a couple at that position. It's too soon for me to assume dark age ahead but we could be in trouble. And, yes, Dane deserves 5 years to get us on the right track...most likely under new management by that time.

According to Sagarin, Texas A&M is ranked #218. That's below JMU and by far the worst in the SEC.

W&M coach Dane Fischer on G Thornton Scott, who has missed the last four games with a lower-leg injury:
"I’m hoping he’s back by conference play (Dec. 30 at Elon). Anything before that would be optimistic."

As many have noted (but NJ Alum is now our designated go-to poster in that department) the Tribe was already on the right track under Shaver --- the train just wasn't moving fast enough to suit Huge. So, taking into account everything Huge said about what her goals and aspirations are, I don't think Fischer will get (or would deserve) five years to make that happen. The program was recruiting great and doing well but was just not getting over the hump (according to Huge) so, now that she has the "right" coach to make that difference, that "right" coach should be able to make it happen in significantly less time than five years. (Of course, all the rest of us know that the only real chance of making it is this year, with Knight and Van Vliet).

We're 5-3.
Before season started, I would have projected 2-6, maybe 3-5, at this point.
I remain very optimistic. Let's see what happens tomorrow with ODU.
