What is it about wearing...
a Bearcats basketball jersey that makes kids who have played basketball their whole lives incapable of making open shots?

Chris McNeal is 4-29 from 3pt and from my memory most of those have been open shots.

It's not like he was a world beater before. He was 28% at WKU and 31% at New Mexico. He averaged 3.5 attempts per game at WKU (as a freshman) and 5.2 attempts per game at New Mexico, so he's used to just chucking it up whenever he gets a chance.

He was always a below average three point shooter. He's been abysmal this year. He's always been a solid free throw shooter. He's been abysmal this year. I didn't have great expectations for McNeal, but his shooting numbers have been so much worse than you'd expect.

We really haven't had a reliable outside threat since Steve Logan.

I always said to my IU friends that if Jordan Hulls would have played for UC in 2012 he would have been a first team all American and we would have won the tournament simply on his 3 point shooting. Cash Wright and Dion Dixon simply weren't good enough to free up Gates to destroy opponents under the basket.

Jarron Cumberland shot 38.8% from 3 last season and was 80/206. Steve Logan went 43/130 (33%), 50/120 (41%) 79/202 (39%) and 86/230 (37%). So basically his best season was damn near identical to a kid we had on the team last season... Some of y'all act like we haven't had a good player at UC since the jumpman jerseys.

I would consider Jaevin Cumberland one if not the purest 3 point shooter in UC's history. Aside from last game, but he will be fine.

Good gosh I hope so. I'm not ready to put him in the "money" category yet.

Jaevin didn't have his best three point shooting night... a couple rimmed out including one that would have cut the lead to 5 late, but I'd agree he's a very pure shooter. He also did a great job getting to the foul line and going 8 of 10 against X.

Jaevin has had a decent amount rim out this season, he went through the leg injury, and he's still shooting 38.1% and shooting a high volume of them. really can't beat that.

RE: What is it about wearing...
Let’s face it, McNeil looks like a guy who is on his fifth school in five years and is transferring from Tennessee Tech. It’s not like a lot of those other four schools were blue-chip programs.

He fit a desperate need when there were very few options. He’s only taking up a scholarship for one year. I think the coaches knew what they were getting.

MAW will be starting sooner rather than later IMO

Jaevin can disappear against quality defenders. Hurries his shot. Not always as easy as it was in the Horizon.

Logan was great but he wasn't special as a 3 point shooter. His biggest asset to me was his body control especially on pull-up drives in and around the paint. He rarely had his shots blocked while frequently getting fouled and to the line where he was money.

You probably meant since Field Williams. But point taken.

Logan senior year (01-02) 230 attempts .374 %
Williams senior year (03-04) 206 attempts .437 %

Honorable mention Tony Bobbitt (03-04) 212 attempts .401%

Wow, that 2003-2004 team had 2 starters that shot over 40% 3pg, plus it was Maxiell's junior year and they went 25-7 finished 3rd in C-USA and got a 4 seed and lost to #5 Illinois in the second round.

Jacob Evans shot the 3 at a nearly 40% shooting clip over his 2 main seasons here (2017/2018). UC has had guys who can shoot the ball from deep.

Kilpatrick, Evans, Cumberland, heck even Farad Cobb shot 39.4% his senior year on 188 attempts.

The issue is that we need to stop expecting guys who haven't been able to shoot from outside (Moore, McNeal, etc) to start doing so when they arrive in Clifton.
