Missouri's bowl ban has been upheld
From ESPN:

Quote:An NCAA appeals committee has upheld Missouri's bowl ban for this season, the school announced on Tuesday.

"We are deeply disappointed and appalled by the NCAA Infractions Appeals Committee's decision to shirk its responsibilities and simply uphold sanctions that are not consistent with precedent or even common sense," Missouri chancellor Alexander Cartwright and AD Jim Sterk said as part of a joint statement.

Quote:Missouri conducted an internal investigation after Kumar made her allegations on social media. Tigers officials then cooperated with the NCAA during its probe and self-imposed penalties of their own. Kumar received a 10-year show-cause from the NCAA.

Just another proof positive that you can't cooperate with an organization that isn't interested in being just.

Favoritism is so obvious in the NCAA office. They have their pets. They have just made it clear to schools never to inform the NCAA on any possible infractions. Hard lesson learned. Missouri lost a lot more than a bowl game. The NCAA should be banned for dragging out an appeal that was filed eight months ago, in March.

I hope KU and MU play each other again someday. The basketball teams have started scheduling each other. That was an ancient rivalry.

I really hope Les Miles can bring back the football. Remember when we squared off in KC and were both 10-0?

I have no love for Missouri at all - and I also agree wholeheartedly that they got hosed by the NCAA.

RE: Missouri's bowl ban has been upheld
Let me get this right. Missouri allegedly had an unethical and overly accommodating tutor serving athletes. And Missouri was sanctioned with a strong penalty.

North Carolina was running a corrupt program of study, full of grotesque academic fraud, accessible by a multitude of athletes, and the NCAA essentially apologizes to UNC for reviewing the allegations. This mess looked worthy of the death penàlty

The NCAA practicing "selective punishment", giving certain politically and economically favored schools a pass on violations, is itself, corruption.

Had the UNC fraud taken place in a less political major like engineering, they may have gotten punished. But not only was that program open to all students (which seems to be one reason that the NCAA didn't pounce, as they didn't see it solely as an eligibility scam), it's one which is core to modern universities' "educational mission". Some dirty laundry may have been aired, but the headlines had moved on, and the NCAA had no appetite to turn over that particular rock again. A little outrage from other fan bases on sports sites alleging favoritism is a small price to them.

RE: Missouri's bowl ban has been upheld
This proposed Missouri joint resolution is interesting: https://www.house.mo.gov/billtracking/bi...1H.01I.pdf

Quote:NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the House of Representatives of the One Hundredth General Assembly, Second Regular Session, the Senate concurring therein, hereby urge the University of Missouri and the Southeastern Conference to lead in reforming the NCAA in order to improve the ethical and moral standing of the association to ensure student athletes and member institutions are served equally, fairly, and with integrity; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, if reforming the NCAA proves to be impossible, the General Assembly urges the University of Missouri and the Southeastern Conference to take the lead in forming a new intercollegiate athletic association that our institutions, conferences, and student athletes deserve...

It's a toothless resolution, sure, but this sort of thing ought to give the NCAA pause. Anytime they want, legislatures could start breaking the NCAA's monopoly on college sports. To that point, there are at least three state NIL bills that, unlike the rest, don't prohibit athletic associations from enforcing anti-NIL rules. Instead, they prohibit in-state schools from being members of associations that have such rules.

BTW, my take is that SEC members really should stand up for each other and for our athletes. None of this weak stuff. Tell the rest of the NCAA to eat it.

"Operation eff 'em," as an old friend used to say...

I have to agree. There's no reason the SEC should allow any of our members to be mistreated, not in this day and age. The NCAA needs Power conferences, not the other way around.

The resolution is toothless, but it also shows people with influence are discussing such things. They often go pubic with ideas and sentiments after discussing them in private for long periods of time, maybe years.

Heck, we'd probably make a good bit more money if we pulled out of the NCAA anyway.
