Just curious, why is that?

If you had been more active a couple years ago, you would not be asking this question.

Tech fans used to come visit us every time they beat a Sun Belt school in something to remind us all of their superiority.

I mean, I remember all of that crap. I just didn't know the La Tech weirdos irritated USM fans... for some reason I thought they liked each other and their "rivalry"

The difference is that its not as if Tech and USM had some sort of grand history with each other before they joined CUSA.

USM has always been more closely aligned with UL and South. It's sort of like how Texas State is likely more closely aligned with UTSA than they are with any SBC school.

This is pretty accurate. USM and UL used to play fairly often in football, 52 times from 1923 to present per our media guide, and still play regularly in baseball. And while Hattiesburg isn't directly on the coast, I would consider them part of the gulf coast so there is some commonality that they share with UL and USA.

CUSA Changes Football Tiebreaker

There is very little in activity that you would see on other college campuses and no school spirit to speak of. I can remember coming out of the Caruthers one weekend and counting 5 cars in the parking lot in October. I think we played Toledo and blew them out by 55. If there were 6k in the stands that would be a high guess.

The TAC was nice at the time and the Lady Techesters were the signature program. Baseball was bad back in those days. Other than engineering I can really recall anything special about Tech academically. As someone who went to school there I can tell you, it is nothing special.

This was the feeling I got when I visited Ruston 14 years ago as a HS senior. Going into engineering I was looking at UT, TAMU, LaTech, and UL. I got into all 4 but out of state tuition in Texas would have required student loans, and with UL and Tech I had the chance to get paid to go to school via various scholarships, so it came down to those two. My takeaway was I would get just as a good of an education in the UL EE curriculum as Tech's, but the college experience would be 20 times better being in Lafayette over Ruston.

Only really cool thing about my Ruston visit was we went to a Tech bball game and I got to see Paul Millsap play.

Doesn’t this change benefit Tech? I don’t think this will make them want to jump. It’s the USM fans that are rightfully pissed off.

The general consensus here is if we go somewhere we want away from tech. We see now why UL wants nothing to do with them and their tax funded program
‘Tax funded program.’ Good stuff. And killing dogs don’t help their rep much either lol.

Do you really believe that anyone connected to La Tech gives a rat's rear end about what some loser like you thinks? Dude, I hate to break it to you, but there's nothing special about any G5 school. Not a single one in the whole nation. What there are are a lot of wannabe's (like yourself) that still harbor delusions of grandeur about their school that are simply never going to materialize.

You need to man up and face the fact that for some reason, USM was left behind by its former CUSA conference mates, but La Tech certainly had nothing to do with it. USM has as good a G5 program today as anyone in the SBC or CUSA, but it certainly isn't "anything special" either. You guys obviously weren't considered worthy of membership in the AAC, or you'd be there already.

This entire thread is pointless anyway. I realize some ULL and a few other wannabe dreamers still think they're destined for some kind of elite G5 status, but that ain't gonna happen. No, once the inevitable geographic realignment happens, we're all going to have to hold our collective noses and get used to having some new (and closer) conference mates. I fully expect La Tech will wind up still sharing a conference with USM, and I think App will share one with Marshall. Unless ULL has been anointed the "elite status" that they're expecting by then, we'll share a conference with them as well.

We'll then be treated to countless threads about which of the newly formed conferences is superior to the other. Never mind the fact that conferences and teams rise and fall in cycles all the time. Nobody stays on top, and nobody stays at the bottom forever.

When a school brings up we’re all competing for the tallest midget you know they are below you in the pecking order.

You obviously care enough to spend time discussing it and then watch your team compete in self described meaningless activity.

LA Tech guy is upset they aren’t in the top half of desirable programs in the worst FBS conference.

A Tech fan projecting his team's irrelevancy onto the rest of the G5 is hilarious. They have 8 wins and they're still stuck playing on ESPN+

So now maybe that’s why this village idiot from coosa/dog-killer-u posts only on here. He jealous that they will be left even further behind when USM/Marshall/UAB bolt to us.

It would seem that Ruston hasn't improved anything on their campus in 40 years. Really looks like a dreadful place to be. Reminds me a bit of Pitt Community College which is adjacent to East Carolina in Greenville, NC.

Take a google maps tour and let me know if i'm spot on or if i'm spot on...

I mean, Georgia State is a Research Institution. ECU has a Medical School. I'm sure that there are others that have actual aims as academic institutions but also play football at the highest level of the sport.

No one is saying the Sun Belt is destined to be elite in the G5. Only that the Sun Belt is seeking to cement their place above C-USA. USM and Marshall's market exposure and watchability have coincided directly with the downturn of C-USA 3.0.

I actually stopped through Ruston a couple of years ago while traveling the interstate through there, just curious to see their campus. It didn't appear much renovations had been done to campus buildings or athletic facilities since the 70's. It wasn't very attractive.

Downtown was dead too.

You didn't look, then.

If you had been more active a couple years ago, you would not be asking this question.

Tech fans used to come visit us every time they beat a Sun Belt school in something to remind us all of their superiority.

USM has always been more closely aligned with UL and South. It's sort of like how Texas State is likely more closely aligned with UTSA than they are with any SBC school.

You don't know what you are talking about. You also left out the part somewhere else about ArkSt filing a lawsuit because they didn't get their way about a bowl game. Man, you are ignorant and it would be better to leave Louisiana Tech out of your comments.

You don't know what you are talking about. You also left out the part somewhere else about ArkSt filing a lawsuit because they didn't get their way about a bowl game. Man, you are ignorant and it would be better to leave Louisiana Tech out of your comments.

What a tool. AState never filed suit over a bowl game nor threatened it. Laughable that you post that made up bovine feces and call someone ignorant.

The town of Ruston does not (or did not at that time) support La Tech. It was two different places - the campus and the town.

Valid and unbiased first hand report and good solid post.

How long ago? I'm curious because at one time you could say Jonesboro downtown was dead (with many boarded up buildings) and that's not the case with a great downtown. Likewise you could drive into Jonesboro and never know there was a college unless you drove to campus, today most businesses paint their windows and have signs supporting the Red Wolves. Things change
