RE: Rice MBB at Lamar
Yes but they don't have a 6th player off the bench and leadership who can contribute this year. Thus, I don’t think they will win the conference again but they should be alright by tournament time.
??? The women lost 3 players, two of whom came off the bench, while returning 4 starters and 2 of our 4 primary bench players.

Rice MBB at Lamar

Rob Martin had an uncharacteristically poor game - he'll be fine. You have to think Murphy was rusty from his layoff. And Lamar's physicality is not something we'll see much of in conference play. If the men lose against HBU - that's a major red flag. But otherwise we still are in shape to be at least a .500 team or better in CUSA play, which has to be the goal at this point. Winning the remainder of the non-conference games is a must though, IMO.
Speaking of the conference, Western Kentucky had a big overtime win at home yesterday against previously undefeated Arkansas. But it came at a big cost as their star Charles Bassey had a serious leg injury late in the game. They're still pretty decent without him, but I'd say even if he returns later in the year, he's probably out for our game there in early January (it looked to be a pretty serious injury and he's probably out at least a month, if not longer). UTSA and UNT look to be getting better after struggling earlier in the season. Still, our conference schedule isn't as hard as I originally though since most of the road games are now against the lower half of the conference, and our toughest games are primarily at home (outside of WKU and La Tech).
So we lose to Lamar Tech on the same day that Western Kentucky beats Arkansas, 86-79? Looking at he transitive properties here.... If they mean anything (which I realize they don’t) that means the Hilltoppers are 55 points better than we are. Lovely…
But only 45 points better than Lamar!!!

Bit of a fun note. JJ Culver, who plays for Wayland Baptist, dropped *100* points tonight. 34-62 shooting.

84 more than what we held him to (16 points in our 25-point win over Wayland Baptist).

Just an FYI, tomorrow's HBU team might be historically bad on defense. So far this year they've given up:
> 80 points at Tulsa
> 95 points at Oral Roberts
> 103 points at Texas Tech
> 111 points at Michigan
> 112 points at Houston
> 99 points at Dayton
> 113 points home versus Samford
They're giving up 101.9 points per game (!!!!). Opposing teams are shooting 54.1% from the field (!!), 43% from 3 (!!). Respectively, those numbers rank, out of 353 CBB teams, 353rd, 353rd, and 350th.
