What is any of that supposed to "prove"?

They talked? And?

Likely about their yoga schedules and grandkids. 07-coffee3

Funny, which deep-stater leaked all that?

They were likely planning a wedding I'm sure.

But no, sorry, these weren't leaks. This came from documents released to congress in their impeachment probe IIRC.

And speaking of deep-state leakers, remember when good 'ole Dev made his midnight run to the White House to give them information on the committee he was chairing at the time? 03-lol

Nunes sharing information with the president. Yeah the horror.....

For a matter as serious as impeachment, I would expect more rigorous standards than for a jaywalking case, not less.

Quote:Regardless, I have N O doubt trump held up the funds for the sole purpose of having Ukraine announce an investigation.

You have no doubt, despite the fact that you have no proof. Sounds like you OD'd on bias and prejudice.

Quote:They have yet to provide any just basis as to why the funds were held up, and then they just released them anyway as soon as they were caught when no further corruption in Ukraine was being investigated. So they're saying Ukraine just magically became un-corrupt?

They are under no obligation to provide a basis, or anything else, unless and until a prima facie case is made out against them.

Quote:Additionally, if they claim fund were held because Ukraine is/was corrupt, that just doesn't hold water since trump is asking them to also launch an investigation into Biden. If they are corrupt, why would you have them investigate a US citizen...and your likely presidential opponent in 2020?

Why? Simple. They have the jurisdiction and they have the investigative tools, presumably including subpoena. Tell me, how would you get hold of Burisma records without Ukrainian assistance?

And are you saying that running for president exempts someone from being subject to investigation?

Since you mentioned no doubt, I have no doubt that there was some funny business going on with Hunter Biden's compensation plan. You don't pat that kind of money to someone who brings nothing to the table except his father, without something improper going on. Does it rise to the level of a crime? I don't know. That's why you have investigations. And when the acts occurred in somebody else's jurisdiction, you need their help to do it

This has been known for a while. These Ukrainians were pointing them around to who was doing what in the Ukraine. They were a conduit and now they are targets. Who knows how valuable they actually were. Bet they say anything at this point to stay alive.

So we could believe them before we couldn't believe them. Gotcha.

Surely Rudy, Pompeo, Pence, McGahn or Mulvaney would be willing to testify on his behalf?
As I understand it, the whistleblower basically said that he/she had heard rumors, and what has been supported is that they heard similar rumors. So in that sense, yes those claims have been confirmed.
Are the rumors true? We don’t know. We know that it’s true there we rumors.
Simply allow those with direct knowledge to testify... Mulvaney, Pompeo, Guiliani, McGhan need to come forward, under oath, and testify on the President’s behalf.

Why? Why do they need to? Why would they want to?

Seems to me that the burden is on those asserting the rumors to prove them true before there is any obligation for anyone to prove them false. You don't have to prove yourself innocent in our system.

"We've got a bunch of rumors and it's up to you to prove them false," is how the criminal justice system worked in Nazi Germany. Are you really wanting to go there? I don't.

And yes, impeachment is a political process as much as a criminal justice process. That does not mean that the protections should be lowered.

This whole idea is being bandied about as a political talking point. And if any of them did show up, they would face endless grilling to uncover anything that could be used politically to embarrass the president and the republicans. It's a fishing expedition, not an evidentiary process.

(12-02-2019 10:05 AM)Redwingtom Wrote:  What "rumors"? Did you not listen to testimony the last two weeks, UNDER OATH, that backed up what was in the WB report?
These are not rumors. We know fairly certain what happened on the call and what happened with the aid being held up. What we don't know yet is whether the acts by the president will get him removed from office by the senate. Aid was withheld, fact. Investigations into the Bidens were requested, fact. The White House is withholding evidence from Congress, fact. Now, we can argue legalities and whether these actions are justified or not, but you're not entitled to call these facts "rumors".

But what did they testify to? That they heard rumors, that there were things said about the situation in conversations, that they expressed opinions in emails, that there were all sorts of rumors and allegations and opinions. Did anyone testify that he or she had actual first hand knowledge that Donald Trump did X for reason Y? If so, I missed it.

None of your facts constitute a basis for criminal prosecution, or presumably for impeachment. The stuff you need to get there is in the rumors and opinions and innuendo.

(12-02-2019 10:08 AM)gdunn Wrote:  So let's be clear, if they're under oath and lied, they could see jailtime right?

To see jail time, they would have to have lied intentionally about factual information. "I heard somebody say something," is not actionable if that somebody actually said that something. "I heard something that concerned me," is not actionable if the speaker was actually concerned. But those don't go to prove facts. Doing it all second-hand like this is a way to create an illusion without anybody being on the hook for perjury.

RE: Detective Nunes is on the case.
I miss when the GOP used to pretend to care about tort reform. Nunes has filed more complete joke lawsuits than any individual in the country. He's now filed a $435,350,000 defamation lawsuit against CNN. Here's a listing of his lawsuits filed just this year.

In March, he sued Twitter, some rabble-rousing accounts — named Devin Nunes’ Mom and Devin Nunes’ Cow — and Republican consultant Liz Mair. Those folks, he alleged, were engaged in a “concerted defamation campaign."
In April, he sued the McClatchy newspaper chain over a story in the Fresno Bee about the activities of a winery in which Nunes holds a stake.
In September, he sued Hearst Magazines and journalist Ryan Lizza over a September 2018 feature story about his family’s dairy business.

This guy is a clown.
