Kent State @ Ohio State
The Flashes head to Saint John's Arena to take on the #10 Buckeyes. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network with the jump ball scheduled for 6:30. Both teams enter at 5-0 although the Buckeyes have a couple of big time wins under their belt already. The most impressive was their drubbing of Villanova a week or so ago.

In that 25 point win, five Ohio State players scored in double figures. This is no surprise. So far the following Buckeyes are averaging double digit points:

*6'9/270 Junior, Kaleb Wesson (11 points/10 rebounds/leads team in blocked shots)
*6'2/190 Freshman, Guard DJ Carton (11 points per game)
*6'8/205 Junior, Kyle Young (10 points/7 rebounds)
*6'3/190 Sophomore, Duane Washington (just under 10 ppg, shooting 61% from deep)

These four just scratch the surface of the talent and depth on the OSU roster. I'm interested in seeing 6'9 freshman Alonzo Gaffney, who played at VASJ in Cleveland before transfering to a basketball factory for his senior season.

It will be interesting to see how Kent State protects the basketball on both ends tonight. Limit turnovers and limit second chance opportunities. Do that and let the chips fall where they may.

burden, I am going to focus my finances on the Grand Canyon vs. Illinois State game tonight. No prediction. Just looking forward to watching KSU on this type of stage.

Go Flashes!

Playing pretty tough on defense. Not getting any love from the refs.

Solid first half. Missing some good looks on the perimeter. Getting the worse end of the whistle. So at 12 point halftime deficit isn't terrible.

Pippen and Simons need more touches

A three point shooter is fouled and they don't give him free throws because he already released the shot? I mean we knew we wouldn't get a fair shake... But at this point you're just making things up.

Pippen and Williams carrying us. If we're going to seal the deal we're going to need someone else to step up though.

Outscored 23-4 to end it. Disappointing

Simonds and Roberts were each 2/11. They're much better than that.

It was a respectable showing. OSUs defense is legit and we scored more FGs on them than anyone so far this year. Really would've liked to see what we could've done with Whittington staying on the court longer. He was certainly holding his own with Wesson (and apparently strong enough to easily knock him over several times...). However, reality is we have no shot in that game unless everyone is playing well and honestly only Pippen and Williams were on tonight. But they were really on.

There is no MAC team that was going to get out of St. Johns Arena with a win. The game was extremely physical at both ends. All you need to know? OSU 22/30 FT's. KSU 4/7 FT's. The "after the shot" foul on Pippen's 3 when he didn't get to shoot FT's was a perfect representation of how things were going. That was laughable.

When Whittington is in foul trouble ... last year and this year ... Kent struggles.

If Kent can't find a way to get 5-10 good minutes out of Bennett by MAC play, this team will be on a tightrope.

BTW .. as good/great as Pippen has been, he has to get to the line much more often. And no offensive rebs bears watching, too.

I really got excited at 48 all. Should have known that we could not overcome the officiating. Simons was very disappointing also. I still like this team a lot.

The officials were all in for this crazy love affair with OSU. There were several no calls that if were made would have given Kent a chance to win. As someone else pointed out it was a laughable officiating performance. My mouth dropped several times at the no calls. I should have known better I guess.

I honestly don’t know if I have ever seen a college basketball game where one team had 28 free throw attempts and the other had three. That’s like science fiction.

RE: Kent State @ Ohio State
The good
Kent State matched Ohio State's physicality for most of the game. Holding Ohio State to only 13 second chance points is rather impressive. I get the sense that KSU will be able to hold their own against the best the MAC has to offer this season.

The bad
Depth in the low post. This has been mentioned already, but the drop off is quite evident. I'm sure KSU is one of many teams in the MAC with this issue, but Beck's stat line is quite telling. I believe he was the only "big" to come off the bench and play significant minutes.

The ugly
Nothing really. Tech fouls are no good, but it was an emotional game. I don't think the final score is a reflection of how the Flashes played.

Three straight home games coming up with a real chance at 8-1 ain't bad.

If he's fallen in love with the 3-point range, he isn't going to be in position for many offensive rebounds

I'm interested in seeing 6'9 freshman Alonzo Gaffney, who played at VASJ in Cleveland before transfering to a basketball factory for his senior season.

He looked good in his warmup! Never sniffed the floor. I've heard his camp (led by Dad) is not the most rational group (as also evidenced by 3 high schools in 4 years) so i'm sure he's losing his mind and worried about his NBA prospects etc.

RE: Kent State @ Ohio State
Who is Alonzo Gaffney?

I like how the OSU coach said he "was upset with some of the officiating calls".

Quality inside players (4s and 5s) are at a premium, and especially so at the mid-major level and below. Still, in my 57 years following Kent State, it sure has seemed to me that they have had more problems getting them than the average MAC and mid-major schools. I asked before and i repeat the question now - I wonder what Sendy's plan was in the event Pippen had not been ready?

RE: Kent State @ Ohio State
And to borrow a phrase from Mr. Dolan, Kent State fans had better “enjoy him” speaking of Danny Pippen because at this rate, there is a ZERO percent chance he’s in a KSU uniform a year from now.
