Yes it is all about the money. We get that. But several of our peer schools in the same boat with us are finding ways to schedule at least one game.

Some 15 FCS schools are playing various numbers of games each. It seems some, like Mercer, are picking up games as they go. Did Mercer make some money with that Army game? If ETSU has concluded the 15 days of NCAA “fall practice”, would they be able to reopen practice if a game (or more) was scheduled in November and/or December? Wonder how Chattanooga’s practice schedule looks in that they played Western Kentucky this past weekend, Western Carolina’s practice schedule as the will be playing Liberty, etc., the Citadel, Mercer who have been playing?

And, speaking of money —- so far some games of note: Missouri St vs Oklahoma, EKU vs West Virginia, Austin Peay vs Pitt, Citadel vs Clemson, Campbell vs Wake Forest, Jacksonville State vs Florida State.

It will be good to hear how all these other schools did it and we could not. We know FCS does not have the big money but many of our peers schools are scheduling games this Fall. The question about practices is excellent as it is hard to believe they would not be allowed to practice leading up to games.

RE: Misc. Offseason Thread
There are approx 125 FCS schools. 15 decided to play a game or two. By far the majority and the top teams decided the best course of action was not to play.

Also you are forgetting that Sanders did not want to play a game that meant nothing except money.

Bucs will have one of the least experienced teams in the conference. They have no experience on the D line. It is primarily going to be made up of Freshman. Freshman that hadn't had a spring practice, straight out of high school. They needed to learn how to practice for FCS competition, get on a weight room regimen, gain weight and strength, learn the playbook, etc. None of this could happen if they had to prepare for a game in the fall. Sanders did not want to throw his young, inexperienced, undersized team to the wolves for a couple of bucks. Also injured players would have little time to be ready for a Feb game that counts for something.

Rather have a team that's been prepared for the regular season, than one getting mauled and possibly injured playing a couple of meaningless games.

Another good question is why does a third year coach have to play all of those freshmen?

I can understand why FCS is not playing in a national context but am just frustrated regionally that SoCon schools get to play some games. Spring ball will be what we need to look forward to now. But were the first two recruiting years of this coaching staff not effective and we are having to play all those freshmen? There should be players that are juniors, sophomores and freshmen if they were recruiting properly. Again, a third year coach should not be complaining about "being young" or having to play freshmen.

You ask questions, get answers but don't like the answers and still criticize.

Your answers are good and are appreciated. I just want the program to be successful. We do not want the coaching staff of any sport at ETSU to use the "we are young" excuse over and over.

Big 10 just refused to allow UTC and Nebraska to play this weekend.
Amazing how quick a team that wants to play and gain experience can attempt to schedule a game with little notice.

For comparison, I looked at UTC’s roster to see how many seniors they have. I didn’t think comparing us to Wofford or Furman would be accurate because of the perceived educational differences. I counted 22 seniors on UTCs roster. Why are these guys leaving ETSU early if they still have eligibility left? This needs to be addressed. We can’t keep having a majority of underclassmen year after year.

Yes this is one of the reasons that I started asking questions about our program and wanting input from people on here who know far more about the inner workings of football. The fact that we are not playing this Fall was explained that 115 of the 130 FCS teams are not playing and we are one of the 115. That makes sense to me. I guess the fact that so many fellow SoCon teams were trying to schedule had me worried but not so much now. But when I heard that we were having to "play all those freshmen next year" raised a red flag for me. I would like to hear opinions of experts here and what they think is going on. To me, it appears that almost two full recruiting years have been lost as we have a third year coaching staff. Is it right to assume we should have much more than freshen being relied on next season? We understand than players will leave all programs and that seniors sometimes do not return but how common is it to not have most of two year's recruits on our team?

Boy — I sure miss those days. UT fans would come on here, sing praises of the Big Orange, the VOLS and get some serious hate stirred up. It sure would kick the conversations up a notch or two. Where have all these folks gone?

I know it seems so long ago now but did we ever get paid the money from Georgia?
