The Golden Knights may be short one QB, as it heads into fall camp this year. Sophomore walk-on Gerry Connell, who emerged from spring practices as the top backup to projected starter Steve Moffett, has apparently left the team, according to a story in the Orlando Sentinel. Head coach George O’Leary had questioned Connell’s work ethic and desire to be a part of the team, and does not expect Connell to return to the team. Although, he has not been formally dismissed. Junior Brandon Sumner moves into the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. … Senior third-string strong safety Alphonso Hopkins has asked for and received a release of his scholarship, and is expected to transfer to D-II Valdosta State.

Yeah, the news about Connell has been out for a couple of weeks now down here. O'Leary reportedly liked Connell's strong arm, but I guess Connell's attitude wasn't in line with O'Leary's. This probably means that Kyle Israel, a true freshman, is now the third string quarterback.

Im a little confused. Was Gerry Connell the transfer QB from University of Minnesota?

No, he's never played for another Division 1-A school. Connell played one year at Naval Academy Prep in Rhode Island after graduating from high school. I don't recall us picking up any transfer quarterbacks lately, but I could be wrong.

Update on my confusion.....from ucfsports.com

UCF will add another quarterback to its roster this summer. Former Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Dwyer quarterback Pete Martinsen, who signed with the University of Minnesota in 2003, has been accepted at UCF and plans to enroll this summer. He'll walk on to the team this fall.
