They are 0-2 against W. Kentucky. I thought we had played them more than twice, but knew our record wasn't good against them.

No. And UAB will beat La Tech today.

Will see if the AD has the balls and smarts to fire Hopson after losing these next 2 games. Seven wins in this conference after 4 years is not good enough. He's gotta go.

Reg, I get that you don’t like JA. But the amount of hate you show the kid is really pathetic. Get this: if he’s starting, imagine what’s sitting on the bench. It’s not better. The fact is that our talent is bad, our coaching is worse, and we’ll finish 3rd in the West again. It’ll be a miracle if McClain makes a move, but judging from the crowd and excitement around today’s game, a game that could put us in first in the West, I can’t see that happening. Even the most hardcore fans I know didn’t go down today, not because they weren’t busy, they’ve just lost interest. It’s very very bad.

Wrong. I actually do like him. Good kid. Nothing personal. I dont like how idiots on this board act like he is the greatest while he is actually a turnover machine with a weak arm.

As far as Hop goes....I think he HAS to be fired with a loss to FAU next weak.

You are a clown. Only post when we lose. We don't hear shat from you after a win. You knowyou have been proven wrong about Jack and it really hurt your ego. We get stuffed only simple 3rd and 1 calls. We don't have an offensive line or no run game. Jack has constant pressure in his face. You are the least knowledgeable USM football fan on this board. You just don't seem to understand the game itself.

Wrong. You didnt hear from me since the loss to La Tech (nice job there too, JA. Thanks for giving me a chance to bring it up now). You haven't heard from me bc Ive been pissed about this ****** football program under Hopson. However, in typical USM fashion....they get your hopes up just enough to think you have a chance at turning the corner (3-game win streak with La Tech losing 2 games in a row, making a CUSA championship a possibility), only to wet themselves at home on senior day. I dont blame the kids, I blame the coach. He needs to be let go. The damn FG attempt down 3 TDs, instead of going for it on the goal line is enough reason to fire his SORRY ASS! That is EJ mentality bull****! But go ahead and defend him and his boy JA. Loser mentality like yours is the reason USM is in the state they are in. Good luck, pal!

Another TTT moment in Southern Miss history. 0-3 against Western Kentucky. And on a day when Louisiana Tech wanted to hand us the division championship on a silver platter. But Hopson and crew said, "No thank you...we prefer mediocrity." If in the early 2000s you had been told that a team named the Hilltoppers who wouldn't attain FBS status until the year 2009 would have a 3-0 record against us prior to 2020, would you have believed it? Last season WKU finished with a 3-9 record with losses to Old Dominion, Charlotte, and FCS Maine. They started the 2019 season losing to FCS Central Arkansas. Yet, on our home field the once legendary Southern Miss football program loses to WKU again handing the division championship back to Louisiana Tech.

With my focus on USM and Louisiana Tech, I had forgot about UAB. For curiosity sake, does anyone who knows about tie-breakers in C-USA know how the division champion would be decided next week if USM, UAB, and LaTech all win their games?

All three teams would be 6-2 in conference play.

LaTech defeated USM
USM defeated UAB
UAB defeated LaTech

All three teams lost to a team in the other division:
LaTech lost to Marshall
USM lost to WKU
UAB lost to WKU

So who is named the division champion?

Somebody on the CUSA board brought up this scenario last week. I think they said it goes to common opponents, then overall conference SOS. Frankly, winning the division on some convoluted tie-breaker and Hopson coming out smelling like a rose would put the perfect bow on this unusually-frustrating-even-for-us season.

USM didnt only lose to Western they got beat by a avg score of 40-18 in the 3 games and that's with a coach that played conservative as hell...eating clock. As for last years record its meaningless when you have a idiot as a coach. A young one at that. Sometimes rookie head coaches lose games they wouldnt in that first game. Conservative Play calling in the Marshall and FAU games cost Western a 3rd CUSA championship

On the bright side USM can still win the West if it goes to a 3 way tie. Beat FAU and UAB beats UNT...

USM holds the tiebreaker, since Tech, USM and UAB all beat each other and all 3 have the same amount of wins in the west. It will come down to USM having a win over FAU and UAB and Tech each won against a lower rated east school.

But if we are being honest I dont think there's much chance in beating FAU. A school that did not have a FB program before 2004. Unlike Western FAU will run up the score if they get a chance and not let a team hang around. FAU probably has the best all around QB in CUSA. And the best offense.

As for Reggie Favre , USM cant afford to buyout coaches or pay a good one...

its cheap ass fans like you that make that possible. The next USM ticket you pay for. Will most likely be your first. You sir are like a lot of Western fans that love to complain but never support the program with their money.

Speaking of those fans...looked to be about 12k at the game today and not close to 20k listed in the box score. For 5 years now I've heard about the USM fan support for home games. For my first visit ( been twice for BB) for a USM football game. Huge letdown on seeing a stadium 1/3 full. USM students (numbers showing up) are pathetic

Still love the old school look of a real stadium and not one of these hole in the ground metal erector sets. But for a football school...fan support was really lacking. Especially one fighting for a spot in the CUSA championship game. On Sr day.

Good luck vs FAU but I think it's going to be a long shot to win that game.

RE: Will Southern Miss get their first win against W. Kentucky?
No one’s there because no one cares. Our entire fan base is apathetic and I’d wager the vast majority didn’t even know we had a game today. Ten years ago we were averaging over 30k a game. The numbers in the stands were a direct reflection on fan’s support for Hopson and leadership at USM. Until we get a President who cares about Athletics and wants us to succeed (and doesn’t just do whatever IHL tells him), there’s a large portion of our base that won’t step foot on campus. There’s another portion sick of Hopson. There’s another portion sick of losing in the worst conference in the country. And still, you have another group tired of watching their money go into a black hole.

So yeah, not surprising at all of the turnout. Fans don’t care. They’re pissed and ready for change. And while you say you don’t think we have the money, I’m not sure we can afford to keep him another year.

Also, since you mentioned it, you say that if fans showed up and bought tickets, we’d have the money to make moves. Couldn’t be further from the truth. Reality is that our leadership has historically accepted even below mediocrity as long as people showed up. They listen to zero people outside of Hattiesburg, even people who’ve given a lot. They’re full of themselves and think they’re geniuses and that anyone north of Magee and south of Wiggins “don’t understand” their problems, when in my experience, they have far more of an understanding than anyone in Hattiesburg.

The only thing that has proven to make leadership make any form of moves on coaching is for people to not show up.

I agree completely. I want Southern Miss to win for the sake of the players. If somehow the team became the West Division champions simply due to a tie-breaker, I in no way want that to be an excuse to give Hopson an extension on his contract. I'll be happy for the team if they became division champions, but I don't want Hopson to get rewarded for an otherwise uninspiring season.

I think you're right about Southern Miss having an uphill battle against FAU. They've looked good recently and they defeated WKU...and we saw what you ended up doing to us. Also, FAU is now in 1st place in the East Division and they must win to assure themselves that they remain there. I think they'll be really motivated to win in front of their home crowd. We'll see if Jay Hopson can outcoach Lane Kiffin and put together a winnable gameplan. I'm not holding my breath.

He will finish the season 7-6, 28-22 after four years...

Raise and extension.
unfortunately you're probably correct.
