It doesn't appear that CMN is high on FSU's list...yet.

Is Senor Tiger an authority on Norvell's status? No idea who they are, just curious

He’s best friends with Mike’s brother-in-law. So he’s probably as close to an expert as anybody here.

Fair enough

I hear tell from someone pretty close to the situation that Norvell may not be going anywhere but tifwiw. It's 3rd or 4th hand which is pretty close

Ive heard the exact opposite. One outlet went as far to say , Norvell May very well be the next head coach at Florida State. Focused on 2 candidates...

The same report from FootballScoop.com indicated that Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly and Memphis head coach Mike Norvell have both been linked to the vacancy and that Norvell "could very well be the next Florida State head coach." Norvell has the Tigers off to a 10-1 start and has won at least 8 games every year since taking over as Memphis' head coach in time for the 2016 season.

Arkansas: Hey Mike, we are interested in talking to you about our job opening
Mike: My team is in the hunt for a conference championship and New Years bowl and I focused on that. I am not willing to discuss jobs until after the season
Arkansas: Well, we want a coach before the early signing period ends and we won’t wait on you
Mike: okay, I am in a better spot here at Memphis anyways. Good luck on your search...

I thought it was weird for Matt Campbell and Matt Rhule to take those jobs, but in the end it looks like you just have to turn them around to parlay it into a really good job.

Arkansuck is such a messy piece of crap on every level, it's not worth the risk. On the other hand, for someone who isn't liked by his fan base and has turned a mess around, it is possibly a good move for Fuente.

Nope. Our next coach should absolutely come from our current staff!

Nope. Use the same approach that landed Fuete and Norvell. Hire an outside firm.

There was no outside firm with Norvell. I was sure everyone knew that.

There was absolutely a search firm contracted. Eastman and Beaudine. There are differing takes on how much the firm contributed. And Bowen did have Norvell on his short list in the back pocket.

But the firm was contracted and paid.

The firm was put on retainer and I believe they handled things like the background checks. But the 4 coaching candidates (Fuente, Mcelwain, Norvell, and Odom) were all known by the internal recruiting staff. If these guys didnt work out, they would have activated the firm for a larger search.

Looks like Clay Helton will keep his job for 1 more year and amazingly enough so does Jim Harbaugh. Point being, the premier job opening THIS season is FSU. FSU is a very nice job and probably a great fit for Norvell, but if Norvell waits another year, he might have even better jobs out there. He's only 38 and there will be really, really good job openings in the next few years.

In what reality do you exist in that Jim Harbaugh is on the hot seat?

If you lose to the hated Ohio State 5 times in a row ...you better believe Michigan fans will put you on the hot seat.

I know two of them and they are rabid—one a rabid Vegan and one a rabid sortsbar owner.

I would say the USC job is better than the FSU job (not by much, mind you). The Michigan job vs. Florida State, that's probably a toss up.

The more I think about it, the Florida State job is better than the Michigan job since Miami is awful and their coach is Manny Diaz and it doesn't seem like Miami is doing much more than spinning its wheels. Great recruiting area and it's pretty easy to recruit top level players when Miami is way down.

Southern Cal is a MUCH better job than Florida State.

Southern Cal is a season away from competing nationally.

Florida State is in a world of buyouts and mediocrity.
