I still believe the article that said Norvell had met with Arkansas is junk. At least, if they meant he met with them this year. (They really didnt say in the article. We know he met with them two years ago) They probably reached out to his agent, and his agent said he's not interested at the moment.

From the Arkansas side, some believe Norvell was genuinely pissed at them for how they handled the situation the last time, and as of a week ago they were saying Norvell wouldnt even speak with them. Thats from the Arkansas side.

Recent articles on the coaching search dont even list Norvell as a potential candidate now. New additions are the Cinci coach and Justin Fuente. Why a coach that is tearing it up right across the river is no longer on that list seems to indicate the Arkansas side knew what they were talking about. Norvell isnt interested, and its possible that whatever happened two years ago has come back to haunt them.

I still believe Norvell wants a Herman / Frost type of job and pay if he were to move on. And he's proven he deserves that. FSU would liekly be a great fit for him, if they were to pay him what they should. But it looks like there's plenty of coaches who want that job, and they are taking their time in choosing. Even Matt Campbell is interested in it, although his buyout is stiff.

And Norvell's not under any pressure to move now. Next years team should be every bit as good or better than this years team. And there could be a slew of jobs open up next year. (Auburn may open up this year, and thats no joke.)

I work In Arkansas. Ark fan her has a son working in Memphis athletic office that said Norvell met with Arkansas.

Then her son is is the AD or right under him. Even if Norvell did meet with them there would only be two or maybe three people in the entire department at Memphis that knew about it...

Ok I’ll let him know that some girl on a message board called him a liar.

05-sosad

I actually did not call him a liar. I simply stated that IF Norvell did meet with AR that only a few people in our athletic department would know about so your friend's son must be very high ranking... Your response indicates to me that he is not and thus was yes lying. If our entire AD knew about the meeting then so would Arkansas' and be impossible to keep quiet. Just using some common sense here.

Norvell hasn't met with anyone, his agent has most definitely had conversations and it is not just Arkansas and FSU, a handful of others have as well.

He’s best friends with Mike’s brother-in-law. So he’s probably as close to an expert as anybody here.

Nope. Our next coach should absolutely come from our current staff!

Nope. Use the same approach that landed Fuete and Norvell. Hire an outside firm.

And Fuente wasn't the selection committee's first choice. McElwain was. Contract talks got hung up (I think on buyout numbers), and Raines (I think) selected Fuente.

With a big fat bank account

Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

2.6 million/year doesn’t create a fat bank account in Memphis???

At some point, and 2.6 million is one of those points, an extra 300-400k doesn’t move the needle much. First, it’s taxed at 40% so it’s actually more like an extra 200k. That’s what, 12% of gross income? It’s nice but is it worth the risk of being in a coordinator position in 3 years making 300-500k?

I think you are underselling Mikes value and not paying attention to where the market is going.

If a coach is making $2.6 million per year (I think we would go to around $3.5 to keep him) leaves for a $4-$5 mil job on a 5 year contract. Gets fired after three years and gets his buyout. Even if he can't a head job which is doubtful since fired head coaches are marketable, there are 21 assistant coaches making between $1 to $2.5 million. No matter what he will still be considered a young coach with a top offensive mindset who can recruit and is very likable. Mike will be making a lot of money for a very long time.

But I'm not sold that he is gone so it can be here.
