If Norvell leaves, I hope we do an extensive national search and find another coach like Norvell or Fuente that no one on this board ever thought about.

I don't think we have anything to fear from Arkansas or Florida State this season.

I have heard that the FSU leadership (AD and Pres) is what is causing the dumpster fire and it's unappealing to prospective coaches. They need to completely clean house.

Fine OC and human being....not really HC material, or a recruiting go-getter.

I think btiger has hacked your account.

Nah, I was reading it on football scoop which said that sources said they had talked to Norvell but no one has verified that anywhere. It's basically spit balling.

Quote:The whisper within the profession is that Arkansas has met with another candidate already and is expected to meet with others in the coming week. It will be interesting to see if the Hogs make a trip to visit with Hugh Freeze who many coaches believe could step in a right the ship quickly.

Interesting that Arkinsaw fired Petrino for extramarital activities, but would now consider Hughie. Funny how a few bad seasons will change perspectives.

Desperation. Big reason why USC is gonna back the brinks truck up to a guy who knew his assistant coach was a wife beater and kept him on staff anyway.

Big concern with this news coming out right now. No problem with Norvell considering what is right for his career. But that the team might lose morale and focus at this critical juncture in the season. I guess we will see on Saturday.

I would have agreed 4 years ago but I feel like the pressure cooker that is USC football has turned him into a good HC.

RE: Norvell meets with Univeristy of Arkansas
It's the nature of college sports these days, but does anyone have an issue with him meeting with one school and "more interested" in another while still the head coach at Memphis? I realize Norvell will likely take another job at some point, but....shouldn't he be more concerned with coaching his current team while still in-season?

No to chip long. He has really done nothing at Notre Dame. We need to have a National search again instead of rehashing assistant coaches that stopped in Memphis to say hi at one point

I hear Hugh Freeze has been to beaver lake on multiple occasions.

Nope. Our next coach should absolutely come from our current staff!

Silverfield will be a serious candidate if Norvell leaves.

The powers that be already have 2 candidates that they prefer at the moment. They will interview others but those 2 are the frontrunners. Silverfield is not one of those 2 but will definitely interview.

Think of all the gas money he could save.

ND was 4-8 the season before Chip Long arrived as OC. Since then ND is 30-6...

He'd be a good hire but this post makes it seem like you attribute all that to him.

I hear you on the search. But that national search will probably suggest Long as a candidate. He fits the profile and will be a hot commodity soon. They've won a lot of games in his 3 years. Their offense is not typically at the top of FBS, but it seems to be a top 25ish style.

no, I didn't mean to convey that but I also don't think it's fair to say he 'He has really done nothing at Notre Dame'

they have looked better with him as OC.

About a week ago hog fans reported that Norvell was basically "not answering their calls" and that Norvell was not going to show up for another interview after what happened two years ago. So the closest they have probably gotten to Norvell is his agent, who told them he has other offers he will deal with first.
