Great effort by the very young Rockets. I know ND is down this year, but this will tough game will play dividends down the road.

Didn't say that, cause I couldn't watch the game. But it's a fact that they won by 3, and made 9 more FTs (and attempted 16 more). That did decide the game as they got the line way more times than UT did.

It was a poorly played game generally. Toledo was the better team in the first half but began to deteriorate in the 3rd quarter and completely collapsed in the fourth quarter. I think they had five possessions in the final quarter, including the final one, where they couldn't even get a shot up. Senior leadership seemed missing at critical points. And while I agree that the young players show good potential I don't understand putting three of them on the court at the same time. And Cullop did that three times in the game. If there was ever a time when we were going to beat a Notre Dame team on their home floor this was the time. They are a mediocre team this year and they certainly played like one tonight. 30% FG, 10% 3 PT, and 60% FT. And UT was about equal to them on the boards. And ND does not have a bigtime scorer or rebounder.

Arianne Whitaker leads the team in rebounding and is second in scoring. She has only played 15 minutes per game, eighth on the team. Can anyone think of a reason why she shouldn't be on the floor more?

Our other two seniors didn't make a shot from the field yesterday. Santucci had a few free throws. For the year, Rokkanen has almost as many turnovers (9) as points (13), to go along with two assists.

We suck at recruiting international players now. Santucci and Rokkanen have been disappointments. Naama’s future daughter couldn’t get here fast enough. (I hear she’s pregnant)

I agree with you on Whitaker. She does a good job offensively in the post, plays good post defense and is a reliable rebounder. And last night while she was 8th on the team in minutes played, she was the leading rebounder and scored 6 points. IMO she should be getting 25+ minutes in the post and relieved by Carlson-Handberg who is competent replacement. Don't understand why she has become and end of the bench player this year.

Last season at Chattanooga Whitaker only played 18 minutes a game, despite starting half of them. It's possible endurance may be an issue. She is slow getting up and down the court, and Cullop likes to push the ball, so that could add to tiring her more quickly. I don't know, just a guess.

RE: WBB @ ND Game Thread
I have very different feelings about both of our bball programs...as I posted elsewhere, for the first time in quite a few seasons, I just have a feeling that this men's team will actually improve as the season goes on, and (fingers crossed) be playing it's best basketball in February & March.

While I can't put my finger on exactly why, I just don't have the same confidence in the women's team.
