Getting Toure back in the 2nd half will help. King held his own with the former in foul trouble.

Need more from Montero, especially when the offense goes stale.

I guess Montero heard me 04-cheers

Dominating right now. They have no answer for the zone. Chris Barnes is stepping up and making shots.

Impressive half so far. Keep your foot on the gas, guys.

Dear Friends,
Nice win 62-45. Team looked relaxed to me. Just did what they had to, and made some nice shots.

Dominant, team win. Very nice to see, even after our offense went dead late in 1st half.

Great win. I wish we could’ve closed the game a little stronger, but it was already in hand, so it’s excusable. But we dominated to start the 2nd half, and that’s all that was needed.

The defense was most impressive, especially on the perimeter. Their guards were completely locked down, and they didn’t really adjust to try and get more open looks. It helps that we have 9 talented guys who play hard on both ends. This is easily the deepest team I can remember under Murphy.

Let’s go get one more.

Men vs UMBC
I'm starting to feel good about this team. I like the way they play as a team, not like individuals. Good hustle, good ball movement, good energy...things I never thought I'd say about Murphyball.

I agree 1000 percent! This looks like a team, not a few individuals!

The season is YOUNG. We've only played two OOC D-I games (one away and one neutral court).

That said, this does show two or three things:

1). A new team can be recruited with JUCO, transfers. prep school, etc. etc. players. More and more talented players are sitting in the JUCO ranks. SCOUTING matters. And 1b). We apparently underestimated the impact that Toure' and Groce would have.

2). Chemistry matters. Sometimes the whole is more (or less) than the sum of the parts. Last season the whole < sum of the parts. This season the team is overachieving.

3). Effort matters. When a team is cohesive, selfless, etc. etc. they tend to overachieve because a happy player plays at a higher energy level. Teams which have dysfunctional chemistry can grossly underachieve. We all know that defense requires effort and a willingness to expend energy for the greater good (team).

RE: Men vs UMBC
As all of you, I am quite pleased with the 2-0 start especially against some quality mid majors. Yesterday’s game against UMBC was a dominant victory throughout the second half, which is even better. But I don’t think they looked that good offensively. Rather the defense was suffocating!!
