Rice missed 6 FTs during that stretch (including the front end of a 1-and-1). Combine cold shooting from the floor with poor shooting from the line and you get a really bad stretch. UH also went 5/6 on 3-pt attempts during that run. A couple of the looks were pretty open, but some of them were strongly contested and UH was just hot.

6 of those 3’s were second or third chance points following offensive rebounds and kick out for the 3. At that point we sacrificed some perimeter defense to try and help rebound. Also unlike the 1st half UH was hot from 3 and the more they gained rhe upper hand the more they relaxed and shot better. Also we were without Murphy who has become an excellent defender and rebounder.

I was listening to the end of the game while driving, so I didn't see what happened, but in the FB broadcast's post-game interview, the UH coach said the change that precipitated their game-ending/winning run was when they (the Cougs) switched to a zone defense after finally realizing that they couldn't guard our Owls 1-on-1.

And did that realization occur during the 5+ minute media/Facebook timeout when they had none of their own TOs remaining?

Ako Adams is listed as questionable heading into today's game vs Milwaukee. Does anyone know if he's playing?

I don't recall Adams getting dinged up against Houston. I am a little worried Murphy might be questionable for this weekend. I would expect guys like Payton Moore, Josh Parrish, Quincy Olivari and Zach Chrisler to get much more playing time in the Bahamas. We're pretty deep, so a minor injury here or there just gives some of the other guys a chance to shine.

Imagine the last time, you could say we are pretty deep or there was a season when freshmen didn't need to play significant time as in the CH game. Perhaps when Michael Harris was a senior, 14 years ago ish?

Yeah well I'd take my word over Don Best FWIW. Actually I do recall now Ako might have been shaking off a hard collision at the very end of the game. But obviously Murphy is the guy we're missing this week. Hopefully he'll be back in time for the December games. But we do have a few weeks off after this weekend - and the schedule isn't too hard after the Bahamas. So as long as we get him back for say Sam Houston State and conference play, we should be okay.
