Rice vs. UH basketball
Big basketball game tonight. I wish I could be there.

My dad and I went to the UH - RICE game about ten years ago at Autry. We were in a very deep hole of 22 points. I thought the game was over. We stormed back in the second half to win in the end. It remains the best basketball game I've ever attended. The players almost got in a fight at the end.

Anyone remember this?

What is the best Rice basketball game you've ever seen in person?

Rice-LSU in 2010 rings a bell. LSU might have had a bad team that year (although Rice also had a losing record), but it was a great game and it was nice to see us beat them with a lot of their fans in attendance.

Also, I wish I could go to the game tonight. Never have liked UH and would like nothing more than to upset them and send their fans home wanting their money back.

RE: Rice vs. UH basketball
The best performance that I can remember seeing in person was a home rout over Memphis in 2011. We got up on them early, and they never got back within arms reach. They had no answer for Tamir Jackson that day.

The two best overall games I've seen were road wins in 2012 and 2015 over Tulane and New Mexico respectively.

The Tulane games was my 22nd birthday weekend, so some friends and I road tripped out to New Orleans. I remember that the arena was sparsely filled, but the energy was high. I reckon Tulane's modest student section didn't like getting shown up volume-wise by my humble group of five. Streaky game- lots of runs by either side. The Wave had all the momentum down the final stretch. Up three with four seconds to go, they fouled Frizzelle to give him two shots (a strategy I never support). Connor nails the first and intentionally misses the second. Tulane deflected the rebound out of bounds, giving us a chance to catch and shoot for the win. Once again, it was Connor who drilled the jumper at the buzzer.

New Mexico in 2015 was Egor Koulechov's turn to be the hero. The Lobos were down from where they like to be, but still were the favorites over the visiting Owls. I thought that I had scored a great deal on tickets, cheap ones in Row B. Didn't learn until I got there that UNM's Pit counts rows from the top. Still, I don't think there's a bad seat in that arena. We led for most of the first half before they went on a furious run to pull ahead at the break. They ended up pushing that lead to 17 at 12 to go. Not quite UCSB scale, but a big hole nonetheless. Egor and Marcus Evans were lights out after that. Egor tied the game with 20 seconds to go. Some missed shots on either end make OT look inevitable, but UNM made one major mistake. They tried to take a timeout when they had none left. I feel like that just be ignored as a play-on, but the rules say it's a tech, so EK got a chance at 1 free throw with 0.1 on the clock. I think we know how that went.

As an aside, I'd just like to add how much I like leaving a venue where Rice was the visitor and all the home fans around are heading out grumbling. Really caps off the experience.

I remember that one-it was awesome. Nothing better than waving goodbye to those loser fans.

I don't remember much of it as I was 10, but mine would have to be TCU at Rice in 1970 to clinch the SWC. Wins over ND and Arkansas in the 80's were outstanding also. And the clown game vs TU in 78(?) when the refs gave them what amounted to a 10 point play, though it was a loss.

RE: Rice vs. UH basketball
Jan 4, 1982. Owls lose by 2 at dUH. Two Owls back early to catch our high flying Owls (Pierce, Wilson and company against Phi Slamma Jamma). At Hofheinz with no tickets, we crash a deep pockets UH alum party and are giving mid court seats three rows up. Thought we might not make it out alive except for the fact that everyone around us was 40 years our seniors and humored the Rice students who had the gall to ask to witness what turned out to be some of the best 39 minutes of Owl basketball ever.

God I loved that New Mexico game. Beating Craig Neal was so enjoyable. So many big plays in that game by different guys. Cashaw hit a big 3. Letcher-Ellis a big steal and lay in. Marcus Evans was as slippery as he was in any Rice game. And then of course Egor's three and tech FT. Absolutely nuts.

Good start but our offense is going to have to be a bit more dynamic. Won't be able to rely on Murphy making deep 3s and Mullins banking them in. Houston's length is an issue.

Yeah, and I don't agree with Avery Johnson's assessment. It looked like right leg stiffened up when his left leg slipped. Hopefully it's just minor, but you always worry about non-contact injuries.

Moore does not hide what he wants to do. In his mind, he's stronger than every guard who's in front of him. He's gonna go straight into your chest.

This would be mine, also as a child, but it was UT, right?

Big response after Houston cuts it to 2. Those are the kind of plays Martin needs to make as the leader of the team.

Really simple but good play by Parrish there. Sat down in the paint rather than take a contested layup, finds the hot hand.

It was a TV timeout.

Rice up 8 at the under-4.
