Football Recruiting-A Good Start??
Is Old Dominion quietly putting together a pretty nice recruiting class for next year. I see 8 3-Star and 1 2-Star recruits already committed on ESPN site. Seems like a dang good start - is that just me???? Hope we can keep them onboard.

RE: Football Recruiting-A Good Start??
Have we ever had 8 3-Star's in one class?
Just a question.

The stars don't mean anything if the coaching staff can't coach the best out of them. A lot of notable G5 and several P5 programs have two star recruits and they can make bowl games every year.

Its difficult to judge to be honest. The credibility of the ratings systems at are level are very low. The people rating the kids haven't actually seen the players. And often times, people send messages to 247 to let them know about kids.
We have had some tremendous players come through and almost every single one of them was a low rated player. The large majority of high rated players have not worked out. Many of the highly ranked players that "didn't pan out" were kids that were kicked off for other reasons and it wasn't performance related.
Haven't analyzed to see how that compares to other CUSA teams.

To me, it means more to look at who else has actually offered a full ride. OX had offers from Cincinnati, App St, and ECU for example. We've had some good players, but we have some good players on the team now as well. It takes a bunch of them to make a good team. And we haven't had one of those in far too long.

Obviously it's not perfect but we've had kids with offers from other much better schools that never did anything for us.

Yep, because their best was not brought out of them.

Or the rankings were bunk. Or they got arrested and were kicked off team. Or they didnt do schoolwork. Or they stole other students charge cards.

Hey. Not all that were arrested and convicted were kicked off the team.

Wonder how that whole Wilder episode would go down if it happened today? We were still riding high at the time and most folks seemed willing to ignore it. Same situation today would certainly have a different result.

I feel like that decision was the beginning of the end for BW. Up until that point, he had been so consistent in what he expected out of players and how they would be treated if they messed up.

I really can't share anything but this was not as cut and dried as some of the other cases.

Can you point to any other player that was charged with a felony that got to remain with the team? I sure can't.
Not off the top of the head.

And that's the crux of it all. There was a precedent set and followed until this. And I don't mind that Bobby let the player leadership council decide Derek's fate. But there are a lot of players who didn't get that benefit with far lesser crimes.

Im not saying I agree or disagree with the decision that was made. There are some things behind the scenes on this one is the only thing Im saying.
