Given how things have been going, maybe NMSU vs New Mexico ought to be considered a "red font" game.

I think the red font games are for match-ups against marquee teams? I don't want to give NuM any credit until they actually prove something. They have stunk for years and especially so under Dr. Judas Arnold.

UVU played Kentucky very close. Lost by only 8 to the #9 ranked team in the country.

Right now UVU is playing the best basketball in the WAC... However, that is not saying much given the performance of every other WAC team. NMSU and GCU still have players returning/coming in December. At that point, we will see if both teams vastly improve.

I was very impressed with UVU. They never backed down. They never gave up. And I like the offense they run. Lots of movement and it freed up players for good lucks. I like what I see from the Mad Dog.

I’m really glad they are still competitive after a coaching change and several transfers. They lost some of their core but they are still playing good ball. Good for the WAC. Best out of conference showing in this fan’s humble opinion.

Both NMSU and UVU have an inside out philosophy. The difference I see is NMSU is trying to do this by feeding the post and allowing Ivan to draw in the defense before dishing out to a perimeter shooter. UVU uses their point guard to press the defense by dibble-driving into the paint then dishing out to a perimeter shooter. At the moment, it looks like UVU has better perimeter shooters than NMSU. TJ Washington has real deep range and Madsen is getting much more out of Trey Woodbury than Menzies ever did while Woodbury was at UNLV. We need Terrell Brown to regain his shooting form. We also need Shawn William to show the same or more accuracy than when he was at ECU. And finally, we need Harris and Henry to get healthy and regain their shooting form. I feel NMSU has more three point shooters than UVU. They are just not as accurate at the moment.

GCU picks up the 69-56 win against Montana in Phoenix. Much needed. Frustrating at first but then they picked it up and got the offense going. They showed some grit in the end and played lock down defense to close out the game.

For a game folks thought GCU would lose... well done, Lopes! Let’s hope they can ride the momentum of a 2 game win streak into the paradise jam.

It was easier to swallow than some of the other losses. Team looked a helluva lot better though. It will be a different team when Harris and Henry come back. There were some BS calls against us that gave UNM free throws...

NMSU is going to be unstoppable when we get Harris and Henry back. I predict a undefeated WAC season.

I highly doubt it. Both will be out of basketball shape and rhythm. AJ’s injury is on his shooting hand and has been in a cast for what 5 weeks?

It’s more plausible to say we drop more WAC games than usual.

Solid wins for UVU and UMKC away from home. Hopefully UVU can continue their winning ways while getting healthier. They are QUITE thin to begin with, and dealing with injuries that it seems like is contagious in the WAC. Mount St Mary's is next on Tuesday as seems to be a winnable game...?

UMKC is playing in the CHAMPIONSHIP game of the Island of Bahamas Showcase! I think it is positive that traditionally that the WAC picked up wins over the A-10 and AAC, conferences that typically get multiple bids. Even though the wins are against the bottom feeders of said leagues, it's progress! I naively/biased to think that UMKC will finish in the top half this year in the WAC. The regular season is going to be bananas.

RE: WAC Basketball week 3
GCU has had a very disappointing showing in the Paradise Jam. Respectable game against Valpo with some great takeaways, but the Fordham game was just a cluster. Other than Majerle being happy about running the offense through Lever several times, it was a weak game. They looked tired and didn’t have passion. I’m no coach, but I think Lever is too inconsistent to rely upon as the top scorer and offense workhorse. GCU is built as a guard-centric team this year, and their strength comes from driving into the lane.

Thunder Dan tore into them in the post game press conference , saying it made him angry when he didn’t see the players give the same amount of passion that he feels he brings during coaching. We will see if they respond against the mighty Redbirds of Illinois State.

Chicago State has a better record than NMSU right now. You read that right.

I'm bummed for the Aggies but I'm happy that ChiSt is having some success.

Any team that loses to Eastern Illinois by 64 points is garbage. All 3 wins are over Non-D1 teams.

Don't knock those non-D1 wins. They're no longer a sure thing in the WAC.
