Here's the Lamar thingy:

Lamar names Blane Morgan as next football coach

Quote:He arrived at Jack Brooks Regional Airport on Thursday afternoon and will be officially introduced during a press conference on Friday at 1 p.m. inside Lamar’s Dauphin Athletics Complex.

Guess they decided better to be saving money on doughnuts after all. BTW, who was Jack Brooks?

Ex-Boston College coach Steve Addazio hired at Colorado State

Quote:Steve Addazio was not out of work for long.

The former Boston College coach was named the head coach at Colorado State, the school announced Wednesday.

Addazio was fired this month after seven seasons at BC in which he finished with a 44-44 record. He led the Eagles to five winning seasons and six bowl appearances.

"Our program will be one built on toughness and passion, and we will work tirelessly to develop men of character to return championship-level football back to Colorado State.’’

How Colorado State's search for a football coach ended with Steve Addazio

Optimism and skepticism: CSU fans react to hiring of football coach Steve Addazio

Quote:"The struggle I think a lot of people have is how is he gonna recruit an area he’s never been in? Really interested to see what the rest of the staff is going to look like, that will be extremely important.”

Seems like a lot of the canned coaches this year were able to quickly pivot and find a new head gig. More or less than other years?

Willie Taggart talks FSU, takes the football reins at Florida Atlantic University

Quote:Early into his first conversation with reporters, Willie Taggart started saying “FSU” before changing course and correctly saying “FAU.”

Taggart’s wife, Taneshia, warned him this was going to happen.

“My wife and I talked about it all last night and she said you better not do that,” Taggart, the seventh head coach in FAU history, recalled. “She said you better just say Florida Atlantic.” The longtime coach is back down at the Group of 5 level as the Owls' new head coach. "It was important wherever we go, we're gonna be there for a while and I thought this was a place where I can be there for a while."

“You gotta win fast," Taggart said when asked about what he learned about his experience at FSU."

Taggart previously turned Western Kentucky and University of South Florida, two struggling Group of 5 programs, into teams that could consistently compete for bowl berths. USF went 10-2 in 2016, Taggart's final season at the helm in Tampa.

Despite never coaching at FAU, Taggart is familiar with the Owls program. He is 1-3 all-time against FAU and his one win, a 20-0 victory over Howard Schnellenberger's Owls in 2011, opened FAU Stadium.

Shawn Clark to be named Appalachian State football coach

Quote:Shawn Clark, offensive line coach at Appalachian State the past four seasons, will be named head coach of the football program Friday.

Clark has been popular with players, who say he often leads the team in singing after victories — a tradition that began when Clark was an offensive lineman at App State under now-retired head coach Jerry Moore.

Clark earned all-America honors for the Mountaineers in 1996 and ‘98. He then was a graduate assistant at Louisville and an assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky, Purdue and Kent State. He joined the Mountaineers staff in 2016 and took on the additional title of assistant head coach this season.

Clark earned a bachelors degree in criminal justice from Appalachian State in 1998 and a masters in education five years later from Louisville. He is a native of Charleston, W.Va., and earned all-state honors in football at George Washington High.

Hmmm, a former Wide Receiver can make a good choices for a College Head Football Coach:

Former NFL star Ed McCaffrey named next head coach at FCS Northern Colorado

Quote:“In conducting our national search, Ed clearly embodied all the traits we desired in our next head coach,” UNC’s statement read. “He is a fierce competitor who developed his talents and strengths among some of football’s greatest minds, and he knows what it takes to succeed at all levels of the game. It was clear to us that he also genuinely cares about student-athletes and their personal, academic and professional development beyond football”

What it means that Ryan Silverfield will coach Memphis in the Cotton Bowl

Quote:"I would like to think that me filling in those shoes, at this time, there won't miss a beat," Silverfield said, "The players will understand it's just another day with a new face up there that's talking to them, a new face that's calling the plays."
Sounds like Boise's plug-n-play with their coaches. Hope it works for them.

Search for next football coach 'getting close' at UNM

Quote:Any day now.

Probably. Maybe.

When asked about how the search for a new football coach is going, University of New Mexico athletic director Eddie Nuñez said it’s going “unbelievably great” and that “It feels very close, it feels very close,” Nuñez said Tuesday afternoon. “But very close could change in a moment’s notice."

-Kalen DeBoer, former Frez OC, now same at Indiana (who did pretty well, comparitively, this past season.)
-Jim McElwain, just took Central Michigan from 1-11 to 8-5 and MAC Cahmpionship game. "Only" making $700,000 at Central Michigan. Life is good.
-Orlondo Steinauer, currently the head coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL. He’s said that the working in the CFL offers a better work-life balance than college football. Interesting.
-Andy Ludwig, current Utah OC, never been a HC, but been around awhile.
-Graham Harrell, USC OC. Up and comer. Frezz is just too small a gig for him, probably.
-Troy Taylor, Head Coach at Sacratomato State, only one year HC experience.

DeBoer has a very impressive head coaching record, albeit at the NAIA level (University of Sioux Falls)--5 years, 67-3, three national championships, and two of the three losses were to the eventual national champions in 2005 and 2007.

Fresno seems to like football coaches of Dutch descent, having had Tim DeRuyter and now talking to DeBoer.

DeBoer looks like maybe we should have talked to around 2010 or 2011. I've said before that I would have fired Bailiff after 2009, 2010, or 2011, because what those seasons showed was that he could catch lightning in a bottle but couldn't sustain.

and here's the

Ohio State’s Jeff Hafley named 36th head football coach at Boston College

Hafley, 40, will be introduced on Monday.

Quote:Wide receivers assistant Rich Gunnell will remain as interim head coach for the Eagles encounter with No. 21 Cincinnati in the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl at Legion Field on Jan. 2 in Birmingham, Alabama. Hafley is scheduled to meet with the coaching staff and players following the press conference. Hafley will return to Columbus and resume his duties as the Buckeyes prepare to face reigning national champion Clemson in the FBS semifinals on Dec. 28 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Hafley was a secondary coach and top recruiter at Pittsburgh (2006-2010) and Rutgers (2001) before jumping ranks to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2012-2014), Cleveland Browns (2014-2015) and San Francisco 49ers (2016-2018) as a defensive backfield specialist. One of his pupils at Rutgers was Patriots safety Duron Harmon.

“I love working on my craft and he’s a guy that specializes in the secondary and that’s what we need and that’s what we want,” said sophomore cornerback Brandon Sebastian.

Here’s how BC’s players and interim coach reacted to the Jeff Hafley hiring

Quote:The defensive backs have a lot of respect for him. Time will tell how Hafley fares with the Eagles, but it’s clear this move resonated with BC’s fans. The response was overwhelmingly and unrelentingly positive.

‘This is my dream job:’ Silverfield introduced as new Tigers head football coach

Ryan Silverfield's rise to Memphis football coach is a story we can all learn from

Quote:How the guy who got the job got it because Memphis football is so strong now that the best move was just to not mess too much with a good thing. How the guy who just needed a break got a break. How the guy who didn’t leave Memphis, who went all-in for the job he wanted, got rewarded for it.

“Once you become intertwined with the city, its culture, its people, the friends I’ve made along the way, the relationships that were built, I didn’t want those to go away,” Silverfield said. “I wanted to be here. I never wanted to let it go and it led me here today.”

Two things:
1. Remember when Memphis and Rice played that game one dreary day not too long ago and how moribund both programs were? For Memphis things seem to have changed.
2. Wonder if a P5 came calling how much of what he said above would remain?

Either way, Memphis has done a great job of building their program up from perennial loser and bottom-feeder into consistent winner. Good luck in your Access Bowl game.

Ok so they’re down to two, an OC and a DC?

Let’s settle this on the field. Luper, you’ve got the morning to spend with the Offense. Gonzales, you’ve got the defense.
Meet at high noon for a 15 minute timed scrimmage. Average more than 3 points a possession and hire the OC. 3 or below and it’s the DC. Easy peasy!
