Men's basketball tournament at the Bahamas

Good news/bad news for the Rice basketball team next weekend when they travel to the Bahamas for the Island of the Bahamas basketball tournament. They announced last week that they're not going to be able to play the games as scheduled at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium since that facility is still sheltering folks from the northern Bahamian islands that were decimated by Hurricane Dorian. But the good news is they're going to somehow play the games instead at the Baha Mar Convention Center, which is part of the resort (pictured above) that the team is staying at in the Bahamas. I imagine the facility might have some technical issues for hosting so many college basketball games (and perhaps not enough space to warm up for the teams?), but there have to be way worse things one can imagine than 3-4 days at that resort.

BTW, Rice's side of the bracket is considerably tougher than the other side of the bracket it appears. Liberty (a potential 2nd round match-up) is 4-0, and Milwaukee (Rice's 1st round opponent) is also off to a good start like the Owls. But the one team on the other side of the bracket that is pretty decent is Evansville, who earlier this year upset #1 Kentucky.
