I got a construction engineering tech degree from USM (now it's changed to Construction Management).

When I was there they had built a Master's program and was working out the kinks... MSU had their engineering stuff but several of their staff stated they encouraged their students if they wanted to go into Construction Management, go to USM after getting the bachelor's and go through the cert program (basically the same as the CM degree but just the core classes) could be done in 3-4 semesters..

Next thing I know after I graduate and USM getting the Master's program going MSU starts a Construction Management program (it only makes sense since they are the Engineering school in the state). When budget cuts came, they evaluated both programs and it was either USM lose the Master's program or State ends their program... The BOT is heavy with State alumni.. Anyone guess what got the ax? USM had looked at building a new building and was going to offer Residential vs Commercial emphasis.. Yep axed..

I've met some of their construction guys... They should've stuck to what they know and let USM continue.

If you are referring to the MS in Science and Technology program, that got the ax because very low student interest. Since, USM has added BS degrees in Computer Engineering and Ocean Engineering. USM seems to be doubling down on Marine Sciences.

USM needs to invest in new facilities for it's tech programs. Until that happens, it will struggle to build enrollment in new programs like Computer Engineering. You go to a lot of campuses and the tech buildings are some of the nicest. It's the opposite at USM.

Computer Engineering was there and I feel like Ocean was new.. I graduated in 05 from the Hattiesburg campus.

I feel like if they had Ocean Engineering when I was going there I'd probably done that.. I worked in dredging for a year and a half and loved it.
