Some other tidbits from Murphy’s interview...
-We’ve played in Texas several times (TCU, Sam Houston St, SMU...I’m probably missing more), and have never won there. Plus it was our 3rd game in 5 days, with a really quick turnaround from Thursday.
-Raves about Binelli’s shooting. Murphy compared him to guys he coached at Cuse, like Gerry McNamara, Eric Devendorf, and Andy Rautins. “If he’s open, he’s not missing”, says Murphy. Can’t wait to see this kid suit up.
-Chad mentioned he’s never seen Murphy high five every coach and player after a win. This one meant a lot to him, and it should. I think that last place prediction put a chip on everyone’s shoulder.

He has a very good shooting form, I always felt his 3 point shooting was a confidence issue as in the past, he was usually benched immediately after missing one. Apparently, however, he does not have the shooting eye I thought he had. My bad and I admit it.
Give him some time. He has good form and is a decent free throw shooter. That usually suggests A good three point shooter is in there somewhere. I bet he finds his groove before MAC play.

Murphy should be excited!!!!!! I can't predict the future, but this plays really hard, and plays Murphy type of defense, and it appears the whole team has bought into Murphy, and his system!!!!!! Last years team had all the hype, but didn't play hard a lot, and didn't buy into the system period! And we're playing possibly with 2 players short, Binelli, and maybe Gibson!!!!! Everyone remember our next two games are on national TV! CBS SPORTS NETWORK!

I'm thinking of the Oakland SF from a few years ago who would come off the bench and start spot up shooting.
Wonder if that will be Binelli's role??

Damn Sam I hope you are right but evidence would indicate otherwise. There is no player I root for more than Ty, he is the only player we have with Power 5 athletic skills. I just don't think he has the 3 ball game I thought he had.

Wow. This is a significant and thoroughly unexpected win. UNT is a pretty decent program. Won the CBI tournament a few years ago. “The Super Pit” is a difficult place to play. This gives me hope for MAC season.
As the resident Montero apologist, I was impressed with his performance.

Missed the game, but really appreciate everyone’s posts/comments. This board is great, especially Sam. Not sure what you do for a living, but you would have excelled as a sports journalist.

Thanks for the N Texas info (you are in that area, right?)
Montero definitely lost some luster given a slow and at times sloppy start. But stat line suggests he was the best and most efficient player in a really nice win yesterday. (In the only game that counted so far). Good job Montero! We are all excited to have you here, so keep it up.

Groce shooting the 3-point shot during the first four games:
Against Siena Heights-> 1 of 2
Against Goshen-> 1 of 6
Against UMD-> 0 of 1
Against N Texas-> 2 of 10
I hope Sam is right that and Groce’s shot will start falling. But I am inclined to agree with Herry’s pessimism. That said, Groce is playing great for EMU this season in so many ways. So this is no knock on the kid.
I think he is decent enough to take a shot or two a game and stretch out the defense as a forward with the mere idea of the threat. But taking 6 or 10 shots is not needed and might be counter productive.

Oh I agree that he shouldn’t be taking that many 3’s a game. He’s a much better slasher. But I think if he takes 3 or 4 a game, he will start hitting a decent percentage.

Yessir, I’m a local. UNT really likes to push the pace and rely on their athleticism. It is to EMU’s credit that they were able to make it a “sloppy” game. I can see why Murphy was so happy afterwards.

Anyone can go to the C-USA site and sign up for a one-day pass ($6.95).
I did watch the game live yesterday and re-watched the 2nd half today (using that 24-hour pass).
And remember, using the 'slider' at the bottom of your screen you can replay parts of the game if you want to 'scout' and emphasize on some aspect or plays or players in the game.

Haven't seen the team play this year but I have really enjoyed the comments from everyone. Sam has me excited about the talent we have on the team.
Now if we can get the coach to switch up his defenses occasionally and run some O maybe we surprise a few teams.
Go Eagles!

FWIW, The website Three Man Weave does in-depth previews on each conference and they had UNT as 2nd in C-USA
