2020 Football Roster
Alex Purviance
Closing one chapter, starting the next. Even though my knees never wanted to cooperate, I’m going to miss moments like these and being a part of something so special. Thank you to… https://t.co/TTeQg4tIuI

The Instagram account is private, but I think we all know what it says. Alex did suffer another knee injury last week. Best of luck to him and his future endeavors.

So sad. Worked his butt off to come back from his first knee. His grittiness and athleticism will be missed.

RE: 2020 Football Roster
Offensive side of the ball will be loaded with talent, especially if Burdick, Evers and Ripley come back. A healthy Mathis (assuming his shoulder does get better) will make the offense easily one of the tops in FCS. The defense loses A LOT. I'm certain that the defensive line will be the focus of the transfer mill this off season. We are left with 4 players with experience...Kiely and Fowler with lots of starting experience. Both Lynn and Bessant have played a fair amount. Omelchenko if he stays has some experience. That's it. Redshirt De Buglio looks the part but we shall see. Hate to see Jones, Johnson and Atkins go but I feel like there are quality backups that can take their place with natural improvement. Corey Parker, Laster and Hayes are huge losses as well. Herdman can fill one of those safety spots quite well though. Remains to be seen if we have a CB that can step in. But bottom line, we are losing a ton of defensive talent and 3 captains off that side of the ball.

Less concerned about CB since Smith and Poole have shown good ability and HOPEFULLY Lewis can finally be healthy if he returns. Marcus Barnes is now getting some reps at safety and has looked good.

I agree, and like previously stated, the defensive line is the concern. There is talent there, but a key to a good football team is a deep defensive line. We're losing one of the best players in the FCS in Bill Murray. We also are losing Gavin Johnson, who has played a huge role in this season and his career. London did a good job in finding transfers in Trainer and Kee, he's gonna have to do it again next season.

I've been very impressed with Smith and Poole all season. I think the backend will continue to be a strength for the defense.

RE: 2020 Football Roster
I'm not all that concerned about the roster. I really don't know exactly what the coaches want to run and whether it was limited by the incumbent roster. From what I can tell, we have upgraded talent on both sides of the ball compared to the last few recruiting classes. I expect that to continue. I see a winning attitude on the sidelines and that will push the athletes to do more in preparation, off season, etc. I would love to see even more true freshmen who push returning players. Getting into year two and three should get us back to the winning side of the ledger. I've been very happy with how things have gone this year.

Murray can only truly be replaced by a top level transfer at this point but there's already a replacement for Johnson if we want to use him. No doubt Crist could play that OLB position. He's not as long as Johnson but I'm certain he weighs every bit as much as Gavin does now. Crist is listed at 230 and Johnson 250 but there's no way Johnson is that heavy now. Crist might even weigh more.
