Uh...Not really... totally different situation for the same action. In the East case, clearly Penny and East directly and immediately benefited from the move. I agree with the penalty there.
In the UM case, there was no way that CPH could have logically assumed that in two years after the loan,he would be Coach at UM after UM just hired Tubby with a very large buyout and getting to bring James Wiseman to UM.... Especially since he was likely only going to play one year. There was no way the he or the officials at UM expected Tubby to be so tone deaf and recruitng challenged and the other self inflicted wounds he made to jeopardize his stay here and open the door for CPH. For all of that to be some grand scheme by CPH is a HUGE leap and not a very reasonable one. (Black helicopter crowd excepted.)

This was more about the change of the status from eligible to ineligible. The facts were never in contest. They $$ was loaned by CPH and admitted to back in the TSSAA action as well as in the NCAA. The NCAA cleared James Wiseman in May, changed their mind at the start of the season and really left James Wiseman with little options to be in college at that point, causing undue harm. Horribly handled by the NCAA and they left themselves with little leverage. Especially once the facts were known about already knowing about the loan prior to ruling him eligible in May. And adding the reinforcement of the their eligibility ruling after that.

The how not to do enforcement-and that's without even bringing up the Ohio State case and the lack of enforcement of other things by other schools...

I guess it is possible but I cannot imagine them agreeing to basically 1/3 the season.

I think 9 is about right. A player for BYU last year had to sit 9 game for near the same amount of money.

Again though NCAA isn't consistent with their punishment so it could be less.

As much as I trust the veracity of any message board, and particularly our own mt.org, I will wait for official news on any settlement.
