If we establish more consistent perimeter shooting we’ll have a real good team. We’re getting to and finishing around the basket much better than in the past few years. Curry has really turned it on the last two games and Wade is the man. Without looking at stats it seems we’re playing faster and scoring more but also allowing more. The D still looks tough to me though so my guess is it’s due to pace and allowing more possessions. We’re being aggressive on the ball defensively which can leave a man wide open but the points off turnovers looks to make it pay off. This is all by my eyeballs so I’ll let you stats guys flesh it out but I got to tell you, I’m having fun watching this team play so far this year.
Another thing I hope we get better at is foul shooting . Another not so great day at the charity stripe.

That's a quality post. Especially if under the influence.

I think nitpicking Godwin's shooting percentage with an incredibly small sample size during the first few games back in after a season ending injury did it.

Definitely room for improvement, but Malik appears to be a stud at the stripe. And he should get his share of opportunities the way he attacks the rim.

Not to take away from MH discussion, but can we also talk about Travis Frields, hitting .500 from behind the arch. Lol.

Why even look at RPI this early is a total joke. Example #11 UTEP, leading CUSA has only one D1 win over New Mexico St with a RPI of #339.

Are we still worried about the PG play, or are we good. I'll admit, I was a little shaken by the first game with the PG's, but Malik is working really hard to be the PG we need. He is damn close to it!

I have mild reservations on Hunter, but wasn't expecting much from a true freshman. Looks like the split could be 30/10. Curry is the most explosive player I've seen in an ODU uniform in a while, he's been very fun to watch.

PG is still a work in progress. Curry is not a pure PG, his strengths are the ability to get to the basket and finish for pts (we wondered where ODU's points would come from this season, Curry's points are a big contribution). He is also hitting his FTs. However, ODU's offense is still reliant on players creating their own shots as Curry adjusts and learns the offense. JJ has wisely let ODU push the ball for quick points, especially off TOs.
On defense another mixed bag. Curry struggles to stop penetration, but has quick feet and hands that create steals and even a few blocks pursuing PGs that get past him.
Since the NI game, ODU has played teams content to run and shoot 3s, I need to see how our PGs play when we're forced to play a slower, half-court game.

It will always depend on who's shooting them. Wade/Carver are not good FT shooters and if they account for 35% of the FTs taken, the numbers likely wont be great. If the ones taking them are Curry/Godwin/Green, the numbers will be fine.

Will find out when we play that team in Richmond. I hope with Green, Wade, Godwin and Curry we will be fine.

In Richmond, that's enough to drive any point guard crazy.

CUSA is known for bigger stronger PG play. I still expect ups and downs. Lets see how consistent we are when we enter CUSA conference play because that is really all that matters. I am still sticking with 18 wins as our O/U.

We are seeing rapid progress I haven't seen in a long time. Against UNI, he looked lost and incapable. Now it doesn't even look like the same guy... and it isn't like we are playing terrible teams. Now I'm not worried. Jackson at UTSA has the body of a 16 year old and does just fine in CUSA. We have never had a team that didn't have ups and downs.

We would be a one win team if we were bad enough to only win 18 games in CUSA.
I'm putting the O/U at 24.5 games.

I'm really optimistic about this team. They still play great defense but are able to turn teams over and score in a lot more ways than past teams. The fact that there seem to be two guys who can get to the rim consistently in Curry and Wade is pretty exciting. Then there is X who can score from pretty much anywhere on the floor. If we get consistent shooting from 3, this team will win CUSA.

I think Oliver will help with that. He is going to add some incredible depth and size to our back court.

Still right salty about the NCAA and Oliver. Guess will see him after four more games. Would be nice to have him for the CAA Rival tour (JMU, GMU, W&M and VCU) games.

We wish it was only 4 more games. JMU, GMU, second round, third round, W&M, and VCU.
