That announcer needs to be consulted by our marketing dept. Roar Monarch is 100% better than Reign On

Is it? I know they've done "Monarch Roar" stuff before and that never caught on. I think it's just a clever joke that requires the context of "War Eagle" for it to really work.

I think my half joke which wasn't that great is almost everything is better than Reign On. Plus the announcer guy is clever, which is something worth consulting.

Apropos of nothing but I think the nickname Monarchs is limiting. It's stuffy and difficult to rally around (see also: Cavaliers). Wildcats snarl, Warriors fight, Rams charge, Blue Devils bedevil, and Monarchs ... sit in a fancy chair and rule their people in a dying form of government. The imagery has its usefulness, but not in a sports context.

ODU already leans into this anyway, but it should fully embrace Lions as an official secondary mark. A nickname for the nickname. LIONS ROAR has a better sound than MONARCHS ROAR. And there aren't any prominent college programs with Lions as an identifier (Nittany Lions are more like pumas or cougars).

I like the Monarchs, don't want a generic name like Loins, Tigers or Bears oh my.

Just watched the game on ESPN reply, what a nice complete game by the Lady Monarch.

Lions, Tigers or Bears, Oh My ... Too Funny

I watched the game as well (SEC Network +). Great spacing on the offensive end and great decisions with the ball against the the trap, both 3/4 and in the half court set. It was like watching a clinic on how to beat the trap. The commentator said coach Nikki said they were going to attack the pressure defense with pressure, and they were successful b/c they have so many great ball handlers. TRUTH !!!

Someone said the only reason ODU won is b/c they shot the lights out. My response: The team's goal is to make ten 3's per game, and we have the shooters to make it happen, and with the tremendous ball movement against their traps, it left our shooters wide open all game and we knocked them down, All Game.

RE: WBB Game 2: ODU (1-0) @ Auburn (1-0)
I can be long winded, so I broke my post up.

I'm not going to mention the big 3 (we know how good they are) or even the other vets from last years squad, we all know what they can do. Instead, I want to mention Amaya Register and Marie Reichert; The Newcomers.

Marie - Another post player to battle down low against many talented big's we will face, and she has the ability to RB, score and even stretch the floor with her jump shooting ability, though we haven't needed that yet, however vs Man D, there aren't many big's who'll be able to step out to the 3 point line to guard her. I love her sense around the basket and her shot blocking ability. Also, I thought she blocked 2 shots that she didn't get credit for in the Box.

Amaya - A true PG with so much potential and we saw a bit of what she can do at this level vs a very good Auburn Defense. Her instincts are solid and she makes good decisions when pressured. I have no doubt that under Coach Nikki's guidance she will reach her pull potential, especially with such a talented team helping her get there.

Looking forward to watching them both grow over the next 4 years.

This could end up being one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the league, and perhaps in the NCAA. WoW !!! Now we need to invite our friends, neighbors and coworkers out to watch the Magic that's a-brewing at the Chartway Arena.

There is actually no such thing as a Nittany Lion. Penn States lion is a Mountain Lion. Apparently they used to be seen regularly on Mt. Nittany which is near the Penn State campus. At least we are not a turkey

ODU is 3rd in the most recent RPI, so I assume that means they're guaranteed a home site in the first and second round because there's no way they won't be top 3 the rest of the season right
