RBs...
Surprised how well they played. Nettles delivered a big hit on a a DB early in 1st qt that really set the tempo of the nite. Jones? That catch in 2nd half near the goal line was outstanding. Harbs? He ran like a man, a very angry man. Really going out some extra tough yards besides his 10-15 yrd pops. RBs really played well.

RE: RBs...
The backs all did well. That was indeed an awesome catch by Jones. Nettles had a great run where he was trapped for what appeared to be a big loss and instead turned upfield hard and made about a six yard gain. Loved the attitude. The O-line had their best game of the season. Zschernitz is going to have a great career.

Agreed. I never thought we would out gain Turledo (the # 1 MAC rushing team) on the ground 222-208. Hammock talked about having some physical practices after getting physically man-handled by CMU, and it showed in the running game!

Don't let the mighty Toledo defense give you an inflated impression. I hope for you guys that your RB's and team is improving, but this might have been more of playing the cluster f*** that is Toledo's defense than anything else.

Brian - what the hell happened to Toledo? Lot of talent on that roster. Very surprised to see Toledo not look prepared or organized.

Agree on Z. He did play like a Fr as expected. He was very physical in the run game. Little off in pass protection, but fought hard. Couple more years in weight room and better quicks and we have a real PLAYER.

Coaching is horrendous. If you thought last night was bad, you should have seen our game against Bowling Green. Lost to them 20-7. I mean Kent State scored 62 points on BG and Toledo could only score 7??? Or how about our game against Ball State. Lost to them 52-14 and it probably should have been worse than that.
The team is never prepared for their opponent. There is no discipline and they lack fundamentals. There is so much talent on this team, but there is a reason that team sports have coaches. You need coaches to teach the fundamentals over and over again and to lead the individual talent into a cohesive team.
A well coached team doesn't make half the mistakes Toledo does. One big example, on 3rd down late in the game for NIU. A well coached team recognizes the QB in the game and has the DE assigned to him for the read option keep.....and ultimately stuffs the play and forces NIU into a long field goal. But Toledo isn't well coached. The DE doesn't even look at the QB, who already burnt them on a similar play in the first half for a long TD run, and crashes inside after the RB. Once he realizes the QB is keeping it is too late. Because he either wasn't taught assignment football or doesn't have the discipline to stay on his assignment.
