GP tactics
GP comes on his show yesterday and starts out with a rant on how Memphis didn't lose to an "experienced team" - and how all you fans saying such are idiots.
Then he starts his classic one-sided closing argument on how he's smarter than all of you. I've noticed a couple of tactics he employs when he does this (daily).
The first tactic is to pick the easiest prey. He looks for one statement made by a minority of the fan population, then goes off on it. He tries to make it sound like all of you fans have this opinion and you are all wrong, then he tells you why. Usually it's an opinion expressed here or on social media, and it's only shared by like 2 people. But he makes a big deal out of it (because it's an easy win for him). That is NOT the case of the "experienced team" comment, because many of us have expressed that opinion, including Jay Bilas during the broadcast.
The second tactic, and the one he used yesterday, is to simply mislead the audience. He won't allow his producer to rebut, and he won't take calls, so he gets away with it. The only person who gets away with occasionally challenging him is Calkins, and when that happens he usually turns it into a joke and moves on.
Here is how he misled his audience yesterday. He said it's a joke to say Memphis lost to an experienced team, because Oregon only returned 3 players and 22 points who PLAYED FOR OREGON last season. He goes on to say that's pretty comparable to what Memphis returned and no one would call them experienced. But returning to play for the same team is not a requirement to being considered experience - especially in today's era of transfer.
His monologue is VERY misleading. To begin with, they return a 4-year starter at PG, which is the most important position on the college bb floor. That alone can qualify the team as "experienced", as long as he's not surrounded by freshmen - and he's not. Secondly, and the biggest intentional omission by GP, is that they also start 2 senior transfers (from UNLV and New Mexico) - one of whom is a 5th-year senior. They also started a junior who was the juco POY last year.
Oregon's starting five were 3 seniors, 1 junior, and 1 sophomore. Leave out the comparison to Memphis, which is obviously a huge disparity, that is an experienced team in college basketball. I don't care to whom you compare it, or what GP says about it.

RE: GP tactics
Saying Oregon is not an experienced team is ridiculous. Even attempting to spin that is crazy. Given the breadth of evidence to the contrary, how can GP say he supports Memphis?

GP has been doing this for years. Really, he has been doing this since he was a kid in horn lake. He often stirred the pot to the point people wanted to stomp his ass only to run away and talk more stuff. He has literally been an instigator his whole life. Yes, even as a child. I remember people chasing him on stateline road in southaven when kids used to cruise the loop on Friday nights trying to catch his smart ass and fight him. He always ran. He always hid and he always got a kick out of it. LOL

The very definition of a successful radio personality. I tire of his "I'm smarter than you" shtick, but the way you get listeners and readers and clicks is to be controversial.

RE: GP tactics
They had very experienced guards especially with picking up their grad transfer/portal transfer guy - just at the guard position. It's where they dominated us

Yep. I turned him off a few years ago, with the exception of once last week to listen to Wiseman situation. He’s a prick that believes he’s smarter and better than everyone else. What I like is Penny will ice him out.

I don't live in Memphis, so I never listen anyway, just to portions of archived podcasts when something comes up.
