Two incredibly stupid articles in one day with issues raised by “the Rice left” whatever that is. It’s always amazing to me that people who are smart enough to get into Rice have such poor reasoning abilities.

1. Somehow these idiots think they can make demands about The Ion and how it impacts homeless people who squat on Rice’s property. Conflating asking for input with the ability to make demands shows a clear lack of reasoning ability.

2. The Rice Left takes issue with a grant supporting research collaboration with the US Army. Maybe they don’t want to use the internet or any of the other things developed by military spending. Guess they aren’t “concerned” with the freedoms afforded to them because of the US military.

It’s not IQ, it is a lack of real world experience and responsibility combined with youthful idealism. It is not an accident that most revolts start with the youth.

I think the Rice Left are not much different from the left anywhere, any school. Being smart just means they can rationalize their irrational goals and means.

Whether we agree with them or not, I'm proud of these kids for being actively engaged in their community and for exercising their first amendment rights.

Perhaps it's more the parenting, or rather lack of it, that shows. Giving kids things =/= teaching kids things. Too much video input, not enough parent time spent doing stuff like fishing, reading, playing together and as a family. In fact, for many, family has become an evil word, replaced by "Gang" and "Government" (and Party). Russia much?
