If not, bring in someone who can.
I would love to make the NCAA's and win a game. In 40 years we have done that three times. But getting there is not all that matters to me. Getting together with my friends and going to the games is mostly what its about for me. And to actually watch the games in person.
The loudest complaining voice on here lately is a guy who doesn't even go to the games and has been complaining about ODU basketball since the old Pilot-online board. That was a long time ago.
Someone said the program is in shambles. Shambles? We lead CUSA in attendance, Jones has won more games the last six years or whatever it is (someone posted a chart a bit back) then any other coach in the league but we are in shambles?
We all wish we were VCU, I get that. Get us into their league and we could go to the dance too finishing in second or third like they do about every year.

Except I don't think we would have ever finished in the top three the last few years (maybe the 18-19 season, but I'm not even sure about that) and I would not see that changing if ODU was in the A-10.starting this coming year The A-10 is significantly better conference than C-USA. You could make the argument that ODU's recruiting would improve with A-10 membership, but I still think a top three finish would be hard.

I have every confidence that if ODU got in the A10 we’d see many more top 3 finishes than bottom three finishes. It might take a couple seasons and a new coach, but we’d be a fixture in the top half and even better in the good seasons.

We're constantly being outrecruited by other CUSA schools (WKU, Marshall, and now North Texas). Conference affiliation is no excuse. Granted, these other schools have issues as well, but they are landing more talent than we are. That shouldn't happen.

So if we have been outrecruited by Marshall and North Texas, why have we been consistently better than them? (WKY close to a wash, but obviously they have outrecruited us and under performed.)

What metrics are you using. By Verbal Commits, we're No 1 in recruiting in the 14 team CUSA.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021
I'm assuming he's talking about incoming freshman. VC average considers everyone's rating in HS on the roster - so we have three 4 stars who have transferred here, but our HS recruits are all 2 stars. Just depends how you want to interpret it for what it all means, but UNT's freshmen include one 3 star. Personally, I find the recruiting ranking similar to football but in a lesser degree - I don't really think they mean much especially at our level. The only school that makes a splash in recruiting is WKU but it hasn't exactly worked out for them yet (no titles, 0 ncaa appearances, 1 NIT appearance in current form of CUSA).

Just proves Stansbury can buy recruits. Can’t buy titles.

WKU has the opposite problem that we have. They have a recruiter who can't coach. We have a coach who can't recruit.
We did split with Marshall at home last year, but they were clearly more talented.
We haven't outperformed North Texas since our championship year. (Man that seems like ages ago.)

I'm cautiously excited about the incoming class as well, but we've been down that road before. Let's see how many of these guys actually see the floor, and hope that at least a few stay at ODU for the long term.

We had half a team when we played Marshall. That we won at all was a miracle. I do not think we are terribly different talent wise from Marshall when we have a full squad

That was the best team Marshall has had in years and they were barely better than us, if any. And we split with them with half our squad. Where is all there talent?
That championship team was 2 years ago.

June starts Monday. If anybody signs with ODU men's basketball, I would think it would be is a weak choice. Please JJ save the 2 vacant spots for next year, unless it is a graduate using his final year.

if anybody signs with ODU under JJ it will be a weak choice! That's all JJ can recruit. Now there is always the possibility of getting a transfer that comes to JJ and requests coming to ODU for specific reasons (ala Trey Freeman) but even then JJ almost turned him down. Mediocre program at best. Finish in top 5 in conference, win 1 or 2 games in conference tournament and go home to watch the dance from your couch. If this is OK with you, you should be happy cause that's what you got@!

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021
Why do you keep supporting JJ. Have you given up and willing to accept mediocrity/
I'll answer your questions, and ask you a few of my own:
I don't "support" JJ, or Rahne, or Finwood or Milton-Jones (?) I support ODU and its athletic program. In other words, the name on the front of the jersey, not the back of the jersey.
Our definitions of mediocrity are different. I do not like our style of play for men's basketball, but I also understand that he plays a style that he and staff feel is best suited for the talent. I also see recruiting as a "team" effort, from those who evaluate the kids, make first contact, keep in contact, develop relationships with players and their coaches and put JJ in position to close the deal. Frankly, I don't see it as any different from the way things were under Taylor. Recruiting the types of players we'd all like to see is more difficult all the time, given the enormous amount of competition from ACC, SEC, A-10, TV exposure they have we don't.
The only thing disturbing that I've "heard" and I don't know if it is true, is that JJ doesn't like the AAU, ass-kissing that appears to be a part of recruiting. Again, don't know if that is true.
He runs a clean program, has a good winning % and I'm frustrated we don't do better in the conference tournament since it's our only ticket to the NCAAs.
My questions for you:
Why do you make it personal towards JJ (don't say you don't because most of your posts say otherwise).
Do you root for ODU or do you root for ODU to fail, especially in MBB?
Do you buy season tickets to MBB? Do you give money to ODAF? Do you have a relationship with anyone in the athletic department?
What is your relationship with the university? Alum? Dropout? Parent of student? Jilted by a cheerleader?
Do you honestly think coming here and griping about JJ 2-3 times a day is going to change the mind of anyone in administration?
Are you and Bluelight related?
Have a blessed day.
