That's the gist of it. That's why Arkansas or anywhere in the south > the coasts. Too crowded, too much traffic, too much crime, etc etc.

The Land of Fruits and Nuts

The crime rate in Tennessee and Arkansas is 25% higher than California.

I like Arkansas and California. Of course, I actually travel to these places instead of just being told what Arkansas and California are by the news.

And once again, why is this thread on this board and why has it not been moved in almost 12 hours. Do we still have mods?

No disrespect intended but if it's that problematic for you why weigh in? Why click on the thread at all? Not that you aren't as equally entitled to express your opinion here as any other user but no one is forcing you to participate.

But those acting like Northwest Arkansas is some backwoods small town typical Arkansas place have obviously never been. There is a world-class art museum, beautiful mountains/trails and lakes, hundreds of millions in economic development going on, 3 Fortune 500 companies within 30 minutes of each other, the Walmart AMP music venue for concerts, Onyx Coffee Lab which has won national awards, microbreweries popping up faster than anywhere else in the region, chain entertainment added every month like Dave & Busters and Topgolf, etc. A lot of people that move here from Texas compare it to Austin 15-20 years ago and it's only going to keep growing (which not all of us want, but it is what it is).

It receives awards by various places each year as well:

You'd think with all those great things that people would be flocking to the area, but they're not. In fact, since 2000, California has gained about 6 million people in population, yet the entire state of Arkansas barely has 3 million people in its total population - and Arkansas is growing at a far slower rate. I have nothing against Arkansas, but it's clear that far more people would rather live in California.

The Northwest Arkansas MSA is the 15th fastest-growing in the United States. It adds 34 people every day to Washington and Benton counties, a higher rate than larger cities like Milwaukee, Chicago, and St. Louis. If it keeps up at that rate it will reach the current population of Memphis in 5-10 years.

So obviously people are flocking to the area. It helps that 50% of UA students are from Texas but there are a lot of California transplants moving here as well. The disconnect here is people keep referencing the entire state. That's basically like using Detroit to say that all of Michigan sucks. I've known people from Arkansas who have moved to Los Angeles for work and can't stand it taking 2 hours to drive 10 miles.

Exactly

I grew up in Memphis, it's my homey. Lived in many other places,,,,it's still my homey.

But the above bold is bango. Or in local parlance, would be like comparing Germantown to Frayser, to further clarify and help the broad brushers understand.

Nice post

And yet, here we are and the pro-Arkansas posts are saying 'homeless people in LA or SF are taking dumps in the street' and the 'ridiculous home prices in...LA or SF'.

That's right! fayette Co TN is cool too, we moved to Flippin from Eads, TN a couple years ago. Has been great move for us. I'm now a fishing guide on the river. I think it's the best job in these parts! 04-rock

Yup. It’s obviously off topic and a troll thread and the mods have allowed on the main board for almost 24 hours.

Find a different thread then.

Two options were given for the supposed "Mike Norvell hiring" either USC or Arkansas.

It was stated that Mike would have a better life in Arkansas because Arkansas was better.

It's not a political thread even though some(most of the pro-Arkansas) folks want to make it one just like they do every other thread.

It is a thread about where is a better "place" not "which has political views that align with mine" thread.

There is a reason Mike Norvell lives in a city and not some hick town being a high school coach with Cooter.

If you want to spew your negativity, go to the smack forum or the political/religion board because this ain't it, chief.

The Land of Fruits and Nuts

Are you referring to Fruits as in gays and Nuts as in crazies?

I love the South for many reasons but I can't stand the ideology so many southerners live by its unreal.
We're so blessed to have this new generation be so on point with the way they view others and respect them.

Some southerns need to go to settings and update their brain.

At least we have a brain. Are you one of the fruits or are you one of the nuts ? Probably both. You don't like the South then get out.

And here we have the go to, if you don't like it, leave.

Smh.

That's the extent of your argument?

Bet it took a lot of thinkin' with that brain you have to arrive at that statement.

Maybe take a nap, now.

In the rocking chair on the porch with a shotgun draped across your lap.

Oh, and tell Cooter I said Hi.

The truth is there are awesome places and crappy places in every state and everywhere has its pros and cons.

Quote:Livability’s Top 100 Places to Live in the U.S citing the upbeat vibe of a college town, an appreciation of the arts, easy access to Ozark scenery and trails, and a thriving culinary scene, low cost of living and solid economy.

25 Best Cities in the US for Millennials by CNBC

7th Safest and Most Affordable place to live by National Association of Realtors

3rd best predicted growth rate in the next 7 years by the U.S. Conference of Mayors

Nice post

I've moved away and come back so many times I lost count. For better or worse Memphis is home.

Another holier than thou gen x'r? Or are you a millennial? Either way...

The problem with being young is that you have to grow older to finally understand just how ignorant you were when you were young. By the time you realize it you have become what you railed against. If you're lucky you will become that old geezer standing on his porch waving his fist at the kids telling them to get off his lawn.
