Football Divison Champ race
First, sorry if its already been posted and I missed it in all the Wiseman talk...

Am I correct in assuming that IF SMU or Navy wins out, and we drop 1 game, then they take the West even with our head-to-head wins over them?

Current Standings:
SMU - 5-1 (@Navy, vs Tulane)
Navy - 5-1 (vs SMU, @ Houston) ND and Army games would have little to do with this race
Memphis - 4-1 (@Houston, @USF, vs Cincinnati)

So SMU @ Navy will knock one team out...

I believe you are correct. We need to win out. We have no margin for error after laying the egg at Temple.

You live in some fantasy world man if you think any video showed the ball clearly hitting the ground. There has been zero angle or video proof that showed the ball clearly hitting the ground.

Yes there has been, but you guys just don't want to accept it.

No there hasn't. The video that you claim, in other threads about this subject, has been released was the same video espn showed during their broadcast. You can't tell clearly that the ball hit the ground.

Considering the coaches said they didn't see an angle where the ball clearly touched the ground. I think I'll take their word over some message board guy thinking he sees something that everyone else doesn't see.

Anyways Memphis lost that game because they turned it over 4 times. The officials just simply took away a chance for them to overcome those turnovers.

It sucks that if we win the next two, it will all come down to having to beat Cincy TWICE! Such BS. They will essentially get a mulligan (if things shake out like it seems) because the last regular season game will mean nothing to them in terms of the AAC (and quite possibly the NY 6 Bowl).

First off, SMU and Navy can't both win out--they still have to play each other.

That being said, obviously if either wins out and Memphis drops another game, that team will have one loss and Memphis will have two.

We'll be heavily cheering for either Tulane or Houston one of the remaining weeks. Hopefully we can win out and it becomes a moot point.

Why would anyone need to take the staff's word on something that they can clearly see for themselves? Like I said, it is so obvious that you would have to try NOT to see it.

But I do agree that the game was lost due to the 4 turnovers. We should have won that game by at least 2 scores. But then again, we probably should have lost to Tulsa so I guess we're even.

If i'm not mistaken, we will play three more conference games and if we win out, we not only win the west division, we are the #1 team in the conference and will host the american conference championship game according to tiebreaker rules for the conference. Am i wrong?

If we end up facing Cincy in the CCG and win, that would be 2 wins over Cincy in one season. At that time our record would be 12-1. Cincy's record (assuming they win their other games) would be 10-3.

In a 13 game season, 2 games equates to 15.4% of total games.

In 1991-1992 Cincy swept Memphis State over 4 games: 2 regular season, Great Midwest Conference tourney, 1992 Elite Eight. We finished 23-11. Cincy beat us 4 times over 34 games which equates to 11.76% of total games.

So...

Sweeping Cincy in football (15.4%) would be more than payback for them sweeping us in basketball (11.76%).

That is correct. If we win out, the championship game will be here.

It is a fairly simple calculation...No tiebreakers involved...

2losses are greater than 1

You can't go vanilla. First, you may have to win the game - if SMU or Navy wins out. Second, you may need to win the game to secure home field - if Cincy wins all other games.

Either Cinci or Memphis need to win out in order to get to the Cotton Bowl.

No one is trying to allow the committee that decision point.
