Precious - I did not think he was as "bad" as some are saying. I just thought he kind of disappeared and was simply a non-factor. He is raw and will definitely have more games like this. He is used to being the biggest and most physically dominant player on the court and will have to figure out how to use his athleticism and skill to get where he wants to go instead of just bullying his way there. We also desperately need him to be a more dominant rebounder.

Quinones - Shot really poorly and we need him to knock down open threes. However, despite poor shooting he seemed to do everything else really well. He defended well and hustled all over the court. There was no doubt he was giving the team everything he had on the court and for a freshman who is shooting poorly that is a great sign of his attitude.

Ellis - Shot poorly and just like Lester we need him knocking down shots to open up the paint. He made a three to start both halves and then after those it looked like he was trying to guide his shots instead of just letting them fly. My opinion is that in the next 3 games he is going to absolutely go off and light it up and he will be lights out for the rest of the season.

Baugh - By far the best option we have at PG. He is not a big time scorer but he penetrates relentlessly and puts a ton of pressure on the defense and is a very willing passer. Coming into the season I thought there was no way he would be our starting guard and in 3 games he has made it clear he is by far our best option. He is just a glue guy who does everything a team needs him to do to win. He is also going to be a lock down defender come March.

D.J. - I was surprised to see he scored 12 points. He just seems to quietly produce. We really need him to become better rebounder to make noise in March. But he seems to just do a little bit of everything and be productive every time he is on the court.

Harris - Was asked to do way too much last year out of necessity. His role is going to be very limited this year. He is still a year away from really being an impact player but I genuinely believe in year 3 and 4 he will be a major player for us. Right now, if he is not hot from three land then he struggles to positively impact the game

Lomax - Steady, calm and becoming a good defender. However, when he is in the game he has to penetrate and break the defense down. He is too content just setting up in half court and swinging the ball around the perimeter. We really need him putting pressure on the defense like Baugh does.

Hardaway and Thomas - They just do not look ready IMO...

Wiseman - First half he had no time to figure the game out, 3 minutes and then benched for foul trouble. The first 10 of the second half he clogged the lane and wanted to relive high school where he posts up and the guard just lobs the ball over the top to him. Welcome to college with tall, strong and athletic bigs guarding you and guards they know to actually rotate and help. It was ugly. But, he did what great players do. He figured it out and figured it out quickly. The last 10 he was much more active and figured out to get himself open and easy shots/putbacks. The last 10 minutes he looked like a top 5 draft pick and he is only going to get better as the season goes and continues to figure the game out.

The team as a whole looked athletic, fast, springy and YOUNG... You can see the potential oozing from these guys. They just have to figure the game out and how to play with each other. Once we start knocking down open shots the offense is going to be explosive. For a loss I feel really good about the team and players and the potential we have!

Good assessments.
We are going to have to shorten the rotation in tough games. I know these games are to get the guys ready for league and tournament play. But when we play these top teams the rotation will have to shorten.

That’s got to be it in games like this. Hopefully Stokes will become eligible and be a stud!

100% agree.

DJJ is very very impressive in the paint and on the wing. He has a nose for rebounding and he understands how to use his body. His poor posture makes me think he doesn't know how to use his body but that's deceiving. He's a stud in the making!

Wiseman is learning. And he just looks dejected since the NCAA BS. Penny can say "it's not a distraction, but rather part of the journey" all he wants, but JW is effected by it. I hate it for him! But he'll be stronger in the end for it. But I truly hate watching a kid lose his innocence.

Quinnones and Boogie are awesome but neither are the type to take a game over and create offense. Their job is to hit shots and play great D. No worries. This was the first game of this magnitude and having it behind them helps in learning to deal with the pressure.

Baugh - a stud! I told this board upon signing him that he's really really good. I had confidence in him and he's still WAY better at this stage than I anticipated!! STUD!

Hardaway, Thomas and Lomax are role guys who look the part. No worries at all. They are improving on D. Hardaway is a smart player. Everytime we play off the sheet, he knows where to be to create space. Lomax is a nice calming influence when we get rattled. He's not the athletic guard who can create off the cuff. He should rely on the offense to group the team and initiate a play. He seems to do so, but a lot of his time was thrown off by poor movement.

We lost, but we look very very talented and VERY VERY raw.

This game was faster and more athletic than what the UK/Mich State game looked like IMO. Great experience for our guys. Great way for Penny to get their attention and get them refocused on basketball and improving their game.

I HATE losing but I left it feeling ok. We're in good hands. I'm far more worried about the courtroom than the court.

I totally agree with all of the above as well. The good thing is that this will call to attention all of those factors to work on & rise above before they go into a much more hostile environment in a month.

Exactly. It's a good game #3. Hopefully we have enough beef on our schedule for the clowns that do tournament seeding......if.....grrrrr nevermind.03-banghead damn you NCAA 03-drunk

Lol...

I seriously doubt the NCAA will grant a questionable transfer with the whole Wiseman situation

One comment on the Tiger fans who made the trip all the way to Portland, and the Tiger fans from the Northwest who came to the game ~~ DON'T get me wrong --I was one who traveled from Memphis --- but y'all need to get louder! You were politely supportive, but next time, raise a ruckus! I don't recall hearing one T-I-G-E-R S! I was sitting up in the rafters with my son, all by myself, and I felt like the voice of one cheering in the wilderness. But again, thanks for making the trip!
