My grandma had this surgery after a fall at age 89. After the surgery she lost the ability to talk, walk, and feed herself. It was frightening, we weren't sure she'd ever live normally. Doctors couldn't guarantee she'd recover.
That said she's still going strong 8 years later. She relearned to walk and talk, and until very recently she was still living on her own.
I hope Mr. Carter's surgery is every bit as successful.
Now that's impressive. That generation is/was tough as hell. I watched my mother suffer in silence the pain of disfiguring RA for a good 20-25 years, she rarely ever complained. If I tweak a muscle I moan and groan all day.

I agree, we're completely spoiled. I've always soaked up their stories of the Great Depression and living in the Dust Bowl. I keep a picture of my shoeless grandpa in front of one of the dugouts he grew up in (they were sharecroppers in Eastern NM), as a reminder of how much we have.
I learned to be appreciative from my grandparents. They grew up with nothing, and appreciated everything they had. Hell, they didn't have shoes, and kids of my generation complained if they had the "wrong" shoes.

My dad used to bird hunt with a group of his friends from Plains--they came over to deer hunt in our area, and my dad and some of his friends would go over there to bird hunt. They always said that Jimmy was a great guy, but they didn't much care for Rosalynn. According to them, Rosalynn turned his politics definitely leftward.
People I know that knew them said the same thing. Lol
Dont judge him by his kid. Lawdy mercy.

We probably know some of the same folks. Plains just isn't that big a town.
My friends also said that Jimmy was very smart, but he was too theoretical to be a good businessman. They claim that the family pushed Jimmy to run for governor of Georgia so that Billy could take over the peanut operation, because Jimmy was running it into the ground.

Georgia outside Atlanta is like a small town. It seems like there is hardly anyone my wife either doesn't know or doesn't know somebody who knows them.

I hope President Carter recovers fully. In all, a decent man whose post presidency has probably been the best of them all.

I remember when Billy took a leak on a runway. Unopened cans sell well into 4 figures from what I understand.

He puked outside the window my buddy and his family were eating at Robby's. It was after a Saturday night baseball game one Spring. Gotta lot of stories about ole Lorenzo. Robby's was the bomb. One of the twins used to be a waiter in the oyster bar. I never spent more than $10 a night and got my full of raw ones and draft. Oh, the days.
