RE: Chicago St @ Eastern Illinois
I was planning on making the 1.5 trip over to Charleston today, but the weather will likely make me stay at home and watch it on ESPN+. Don’t really care to drive in snow and ice for an extended period of time on dark, country roads!

Hopefully they’ll start off better than last time out.

That ain’t good. Glad you didn’t drive over. Done the Terre Haute-Charleston drive and can’t imagine it working with icy/unplowed roads at night.

My wife is from Charleston. When we visited her family in Mattoon a few years back, I think that may have been my coldest Thanksgiving ever. I imagine those roads are treacherous to say the least.

Even though I’m in the south, we still have problems with ice. We just aren’t equipped for winter weather the way you are up there. Our first defense is to put down a brine solution. Yep... salt water.

Definitely not the ideal roads to be on cold winter! Especially with most areas being so rural, it’ll take a while for a plow to come through (if they ever do!). We also use a brine solution pretty frequently so I know how you feel! But, they also put down sand as well which is mess but helps out.

I’ve been in the central Illinois/Indiana area for the past 27 years or so.. minus three down at SIUC.. and one year actually at EIU. My wife went to EIU as well so pretty familiar with the Charleston/Mattoon area!
