Looks like WAC is 0-3 tonight. UMKC loses to Drake, Bakersfield dropped one to UNI. Unless a miracle happens in the next 20 minutes, GCU will suffer their first ever loss to San Diego State.

GCU 61 SDS 86, WAC goes 1-14 against D1 opponents.

NMSU should be able to get past Southern tomorrow, maybe that'll break the curse.

If NMSU loses to Southern then Dixie State and Tarleton State might change their minds about joining the WAC. It's shaping up to be a very ugly year.

No kidding. I actually think there is a chance we lose. Aside from Queen no one played remotely good vs. Utep.

Congratulations to NMSU on breaking the WAC win drought.

Looks like Southern fought pretty hard. 5 players fouled out.

NMSU had a 19 point lead with about 10 minutes left. If Jans hadn't taken his foot off the gas pedal, NMSU would have won by 30 last night. It was nice to see the offense play good in the 2nd half. Terrell Brown still not healthy. Once he gets healthy and we get AJ back, this team will be rolling to another WAC Championship. The East Carolina transfer hit 4 3's last night scoring 17. If he gets going, watch out.

RE: WAC Basketball week 2
Country_Wisdom_359,
I will pass on the Kool-Aid. GCU has a lot going for it. A $5.3 million dollar basketball budget. Great facilities. Great fans. They average over 7,000 fans per game. A great market in Phoenix. They should be an attractive candidate for any western expansion.

They got off to a terrific start in the first four years. In their second season, they beat New Mexico at home. NMSU got swept by UNM. They swept San Diego State. In 2016-2017, they had consecutive home games with Louisville, San Diego State, Illinois-Chicago and road games at Duke, Penn State and Arizona. Great scheduling. They ended up 12-2 in the WAC play that season, with a win over NMSU. They looked like a potential mid-major power.

Then they became eligible for in 2018-2019 for postseason play and have just stalled. They have been getting pushed around. CBU goes up to Austin in their second season and loses to Texas 67-54. They are not as good as Texas, but they competed. GCU went up to Austin last year and got blown out 98-60. They trailed 56-30 at halftime. This quote from the coach: “There’s no way I thought I thought we’d get beat like this,” Majerle said. “We’ve got a pretty good team. We got punched in the mouth early and for whatever reason we couldn’t fight back. It just never stopped.”

The same thing happened on last year's WAC championship game. NMSU crushed GCU 89-57, even though GCU jumped to an early 10-2 lead. The year before they lost to NMSU in the WAC Championship 72-58, but at least the game felt competitive. Then to open up 0-3, with a loss to Davenport? I really question GCU's toughness. I think if you push hard enough, they will back down. I don't question their talent. They have an edge over NMSU in almost every area...except coaching. Majerle has not done a good job of coaching. Chris Jans is better and I think Rick Croy is better. Their team's compete. It is what you do when things are not going well for you.

I don't think GCU is leaving the WAC because I don't think the WCC is expanding anytime soon. GCU has stated in the past the goal of being another Gonzaga. A good goal to set. I have never heard or read CBU state that they are using GCU as a model. I think they view GCU as a rival but not as a model. I think their own goals are just about competing for championships.

The WAC needs GCU to be good in athletics and so some of my post the other day was about that. So I want them to play well in non-conference play. Losing to Davenport, a school that any other team in the WAC would easily beat, is not a good start to the season.

WAC goes 1-3 tonight. Lopes handle their business at home against Pine Bluff and pick up their first win. UTRGV dropped a winnable one against Stony Brook, Syracuse had no trouble against Seattle, and Purdue was all over Chicago State, winning by 44 in a massacre.

Aggie/Non Aggie fans grab your 1888 (or locally brewed beer equivalent) and drink to our hopeful upset of #19 Arizona! A good win for us and a good win for the WAC! The better we do in our OOC the better the chance of a 2 bid WAC if we get knocked out of the finals (assuming we get there). Game is at noon mountain time.

Not an expert, but I'd guess every single WAC team blew any chance of an at-large with their first week losses. Just not enough top-25 upset opportunities on anyone's remaining OOC schedule. And losing to any WAC team in the tournament final by itself would be enough to sour the selection committee.

But Arizona would be nice win anyway, and might help with non-NCAA post season. Good luck with it.

Congrats to GCU on the win. I was almost 100 percent sure they would win. AKPB is terrible and GCU was going to be riled up for this game. I'm afraid the next game will be another home loss to Montana State who almost beat Utah State in Logan. I'm just hoping we don't lose by 30 to Arizona today. The Aggies have looked terrible, even in the win over Southern. We miss Eli Chuha more than I thought we would.

I am also predicting a loss by GCU to Montana State. We barely took care of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and they are ranked 341 (out of 353) in D1. We could easily be 1-10 entering the Dec. 17th game against New Mexico. On that date Frayer and Dixon are eligible to play (not sure about Jaylen Fisher since he is never on the bench so he may have left the team) so perhaps we start playing better.
Prediction: GCU ends up with a losing record this year going 13-16.
Something is wrong with the purple kool-aid!

Ouch! Looks like the Aggies were out of it by halftime.

Exactly what I feared, a 30 point loss. Something is off with this years Aggie team aside from the injuries. I think they might have thought they would show up and run all over everyone. The WAC looks like crap from top to bottom this year.

Playing the #17 team and having key players injured, I'm happy it wasn't a greater loss. I would've been happy if they had lost by even less. This was something I thought would happen with all the injuries. Sadly, it is what it is. Aggie fans have been riding high since Menzies departed. I thought our down year would be next year.

Not having AJ has effected this team. We have been starting a D-2 point guard. Our offense is awful, just like it was bad when we put him in to give AJ some rest. Brown and Bobbitt have sucked so hopefully they pull their heads out of the gutter. I still think this team will be fine once we get AJ back and Brown gets healthy.
