His not turning the ball over was impressive, as was his two steals from players he was not guarding. But he does have to get his offensive game together.
Well, if it's not a concussion, that is wonderful news for TUMBB and for him, personally!
Regardless, however, his play has been so unproductive that something appears to be seriously wrong. His performance hasn't even been average D1 level in games 1 and 2. JPL was more productive than Scott in game 2.
If Scott keeps playing like he has for the next few games, he might be replaced by JPL in the core playing rotation, joining Parks at the end of the bench.
Even assuming that he hasn't been injured, the blow to the team has been as serious as it would be if he had been injured.
I can't ask you or anyone to explain what the reasons might be, but whatever they are, I don't think Temple has much of a chance at 20+ wins without Scott playing near his potential.
In Temple’s first game, Temple players didn’t run their half-court offense. Mckie said they were nervous. By not running Temple’s offense that may have thrown him off his game. Part of the reason Scott was 3-11 was because his shooting mechanics on his jump shot was off. I could see that in warm-ups.
I guess if he shot 6-11 rather than 3-11 as he did, no one would question his play.
In warm-ups to the second game, I could see his mechanics were off on some of his jumpers. He did hit his first shot, which was a three-ball, and
it was waved off as another Temple player committed a foul on that play.
He displayed that he knows how to play the game correctly. As there were a number of times he drove to the hoop, and there was no clear path, so he instead found an open shooter. He should have been credited with three assists in 14 minutes of play. He displayed his uncanny court vision, and decision-maker.
While fans were looking for scoring from him, he showed maturity and good decision making. He realizes the importance not turn the ball over, and to make assists. Don’t think in the second game he felt his scoring was necessary for Temple to win the game. I’m glad he played the game correctly.
In his 40 minutes of playing time, he’s had no turnovers. That’s unheard of. He’s worked hard the last year to get there. Everyone who has seen him in practices describe his bb IQ as off the charts. Do think we’ll get to see his full offensive arsenal.
I look at his 40 minutes of playing time as producing six points. his two steals kept opponents from scoring twice, his 2-steals produced to 2-points, his block shot kept Morgan State making a hoop. He passed the ball to three players who scored six points. For me, Scott was very productive in his 40 minutes of playing time, while fans might not think so.
Do think that he and Alani should share the PG responsibilities, as Rose, Nate, nor JPL can do that. Alani and Scott should play together in the back-court at times.
It’s my understanding from the public comments from Temple players and coaches that Scott has been by far in practices Temple’s best offensive shooter and scorer. Hope and expect to see that soon. Assume it must be difficult for him kicking ass in team scrimmages and then having to come off the bench. That’s just conjecture.
