It's interesting that they supposedly can't distinguish between an agent giving Corey Maggette a few grand and someone giving Lance Thomas $100K in jewelry between a high school coach legitimately trying to help a family in need.

Pretty much, sometimes it is just compassion..

I don't know where the Tuohys guided Oher but Penny was sending his players to Kentucky, UAB and Wichita State etc

Oher / Touhy is the same as Alo / Hardaway.

Wiseman is a different animal.

Y'all are trying to make Penny seem like a saint here...

Penny wanted Wiseman to play for him in Memphis...He wasn't just being a philanthropist.

That said he definitely didn't bring Wiseman to Memphis to get him to go the U of M...I think that is very clear based on where all of Penny's other players committed to prior to Penny getting the job.

Which is allowed based upon the NCAA bylaws.

Penny obviously wanted Wiseman to play for him, but secretly helping with moving expenses probably had less of an effect than being around him every day for years.

It's absurd to act like this payment swayed a future multimillionaire and should be pressed as much as the rules allow. It's nearer to NOTHING, in college sports terms.

If you've read the thread, others have done so eloquently.

Yeah it is still very different.

Can you prove that the Touhy's began their relationship with Oher because of his football prowess?

The Touhy's would also be considered family members of a teammate which are allowed to provide reasonable living expenses.

They didn't adopt his 10 brothers and sisters. I wonder why?

They didn’t adopt his Mom, nor any gay kids. I wonder why? Maybe they’re misogynistic homophobes?

OR maybe they’re just normal people who adopt one kid instead of eleven?

At the time that he helped him move Penny wanted him to play for KY.

RE: The Blind Side
That's the other part that's wild. The only thing that made James Wiseman a Memphis Tiger was the immediate failure of the Tubby Smith era. That's the only thing that put Penny in this position likely years ahead of schedule and made joining him in college an option to James. Now the NCAA is pulling out everything it can to prevent it from happening after initially saying "checks out i guess" until it's too late to not damage people.

For something done with next to NO malice aforethought, as compared to the vast majority of college sports dealings, it just seems needlessly spiteful even for them.

Not quite.
A-lo has never been expected to be a future millionaire pro athlete - and especially not when Penny began his mentorship.
Oher and Wiseman have.
