Yes! I believe that was after he had the holding call on that long run by Doaks? That's just another example of why he'll get a good look from scouts. He just hustles and makes plays any way he can.

It was an angry tackle. It was after the holding call and he obviously took his frustration out on the returner. Loved it!

RE: Josiah Deguara
He got jobbed on that holding call on Doaks long run that would have put us in charge. If you want to call that a hold, there's multiple holds on every play. He was up under his pads like they teach you. The announcer said as much. He was fuming after that call. Kid really takes blocking seriously which is likely why he'll play professionally. That said, evidently his back was acting up last night which may have contributed to why he wasn't active in the passing game.

I was thinking that if he finishes the year strong and healthy he has to be an NFL draft prospect. For the sake of comparison, I looked at the senior year's of Josiah and Travis Kelce...

JD
9 G
28 REC
414 YDS
14.8 AVG
7 TD

TK
13 G
45 REC
722 YDS
16.0 AVG
8 TD

With three games remaining in the regular season and potentially the AAC chip game and a bowl game, Josiah is trending to an equal or better senior year than Kelce's. The question is can Josiah take his game to the next level like Travis did? JD is a few inches shorter and probably a hair slower in speed than TK but he runs great routes and has good hands. His hustle plays and high football IQ would also appeal to NFL teams. I'm just thankful he's having a great year because the team has needed him to make plays and so far he's done just that.

If you're comparing Kelce's senior year to Daguara's, it's worth mentioning three differences that make Daguara's achievements more impressive:

First, UC had a more potent passing game in 2012. In 13 games, Munchie and Kay combined for 3,104 yards and 25 TD. Through 10 games this year, UC has 1,912 yards and 17 TD.

Second, UC had other receivers to take the pressure off Kelce. 2012 was Kenbrell Thompkins' senior year, and he started in the NFL for 3 years. Anthony McClung (Jr) and Alex Chisum (So) both got NFL Looks. Future NFL running back George Winn (Jr) caught 15 passes. RDA4 and Damon Julian each caught over 24 passes. The receiving corps was so good that future NFL TE Blake Annan (Jr) and NFL WR Chris Moore (Fr) barely played, and redshirt freshman Shaq Washington joined them on the bench.

Third, UC played an easier schedule in 2012. The Big East was in its final season. West Virginia was replaced by Temple. The only ranked team we played was Louisville. We played only 7 conference games, and the other 5 included Miami and 2 FCS schools. 101 of Kelce's 722 receiving yards came against Fordham.

I wonder - would Kelce have gotten drafted if he didn't have such an outstanding performance in the bowl game against Duke (5 receptions, 123 yards, and the game winning TD)?

Yes...there are stories about how on-top of Kelce that Andy Reid was after talking with Jason about him when they were still together with the Eagles. That coupled with his ridiculous Pro Day numbers and there was no chance he wasn't getting drafted, regardless of if he caught an 80 yard TD pass in the last game of his college career. People forget, but his combine was one for the ages...

If you compare across the board over the last 10 years, his 40-time, broad jump, vertical jump, and 20 yard shuttle would all be Top 15 overall for tight ends...there is only one other TE who can claim to be on every one of those lists, OJ Howard, who was considered one of the most athletically gifted TE prospects to EVER come into the draft. Oh, and his physical measurables and blocking were both plus for TEs. The issue with his stock (and why he wasn't invited to the combine) was his year long suspension, and even that was questionable when you look at it under a microscope and look at what happened with the other person involved. He was never even considered below a 5th round grade by most draft putnicks.

Great points and analysis guys. 04-cheers

The big head scratcher for me is what happended to Josie Dee? Since the UConn game he went Bygone in the offense. No TDs, only 8 catches for 78 yards, and not really impactful in the passing game.

Well...considering we threw for less than 100 yards in 2 of those games and he was clearly injured in this one that's to be expected.

I understand that but it wasn't like Ridder was lighting it up before those games either. Deguara has been a great safety valve and a mismatch for opposing defenses. I'm just surprised we couldn't get him the ball more in key situations. Maybe some of it was playcalling or scheme or defenses made some adjustments. Tight ends were supposed to be a strength of our team and it didn't play out that way over the last four games or so.

It's clear this coaching staff wasnt confident enough in Ridder to run any plays over the middle, meaning the space a TE would typically occupy is completely off limits. Only so many players can run 5 yard outs and 12 yard comebacks, I guess Deguara was the odd man out.

I watched a little of the second half saw him blocking down field a couple of plays no balls were thrown his way.

Anyone know how Deguara ended up at UC?

He's from Folsom, California, about 20 minutes outside Sacramento. Not exactly our backyard.

And he wasn't widely recruited. He was a 2-star recruit whose only offers were from UC and Air Force. I'm curious how UC coaches even heard about him.

It helps that Tubs wasn't aware that Ohio had recruits as well.
