For those old enough to remember the property before its was developed, we recall the land level next to Oporto-Madrid was about 8 ft below the street. By the time construction began, it was about 15 ft above the street with fill dirt blasted from Red Mountain. Now the mall is as dead as many of the once vibrant stores that used to do business there. Catherine's Stout Shoppe employed my oldest daughter for some time.
I only been in there once ,it was only a Dollar Tree and that's it as far as I can remember. There was a Cheddar's restaurant in that property also, but they closed it quick not long after it was opened.
A recent AL.COM article noted new signs of life for two malls -- one in Gadsden and one in Montgomery-- that seem to be rebounding well with new businesses.

It's a bowling alley/arcade spot at the former Sears store in Gadsden Mall, it's neat.
