82,
Live stats has errors tonight so points in paint I think are not correct according to Mike V. And,Mike was loose with the ball against zone press in the 2nd half so that had to figure in.

19 TO's to 11 for Campbell.
Campbell 40 pts in paint, UNCW 18
UNCW only 3 second chance points and 6 off rebs.
Campbell 26 pts. off TO's, UNCW 9
UNCW 21-25 FT's Campbell 5-6
Good to get the W. Campbell implementing the press and getting points on TO's, UNCW still not using the press. Makes me wonder why?
Last year we didn't pull this kind of win out so that's progress. CB is clearly in the way of this team progressing at a faster rate. When the game was erratic in the end he was the least calm of anyone on the sidelines and in the timeouts.
-We had zero ball movement vs their Zone. Players looked confused.
-Could not exploit Linssen or Dodd inside to the degree we should vs a small team like Campbell.
-Resorted to a High Pick Toews 1 on 1 most of the last 10 mins.
-Kept switching with Dodd and Linssen on the perimeter and got roasted for layups. I counted 10pts in the 2nd half.
-Could not come up with a simple play to get our best FT shooters the ball and instead ran people within 1 yard of the baseline.
-Campbell 40 paint points mostly on bad drive contain
-UNCW 10 measly fastbreak points
-19 turnovers and gave up 17 offensive rebounds against a poor Campbell team
We have some quality kids. Toews & Sims led us at the end. CB better not screw up this season because the kids deserve better. Stick to recruiting and let Esleeck take the in game huddles.

I’ve seen some bad crews in Trask but I’m willing to say they were the worst I’ve ever witnessed. Glad it didn’t cost us the game. Toews’ poise down the stretch won us that game IMO. Felt we were in good hands with the ball in his hands late. I agree with Hawking, that’s a game we find a way to lose last season. I see improvements so far, we just have to keep building off of it.

I mean that’s a game we DID lose last year, very similar game in OT to be exact. Just not as much D played last year

Chris Clemons makes it a little different. He wasn’t losing that game last year. The most impressive performance I’ve seen in person on the college level

I think that’s slightly unfair. He was watching his team lose a lead in a game his team controlled from nearly start to finish, and crumble at the end of regulation... and even to a smaller extent in the OT period. I don’t expect any coach to be “calm” during that. That being said, I wasn’t there and didn’t watch the game. I was just listening to the radio call.
I would have been more upset if he just calmly watched it all fall apart like that. That was a lot of the knock against him the last couple years. CB showing energy in that scenario isn’t really a bad thing, IMO.

I was there as well. He willed them to a W even after getting banged up

Clemons has offensive firepower all on his own that gave Keatts fits too. I’m so glad he graduated.
The bottom line is Campbell out hustled us most of the game. We came out lackadaisical and only played with energy in spurts. I don't think CB was happy with the overall effort. I know I wasn't. We have a more athletic team than Campbell, but they played harder. We shot very well, but had a lot less energy than we did against UNC. Our shooting and the fact that different players stepped up at different times saved us. But sure, the lack of energy was all CB's fault. The fact is, this happens with every team during a season. Just ask Kentucky tonight. The difference tonight between us and Kentucky is we still won. And I'll take that.

....'losing the lead in regulation' because of extremely poor, or in some cases ZERO in game adjustments based on the last 2 years of games I've seen. No one will confuse him with Coach K I know, but seriously? Who can defend this guy at this point?

I didn't think CB was that bad either... My biggest issue was when we came out hot in the 2nd half and he immediately subbed Skaggs in for no apparent reason. Killed our momentum. I liked the lineups he played in crunch time and his trust in the freshman. That's going to go a long way with giving them confidence. As 82 mentioned earlier, he needs to work on late game inbounding situations. It wasn't pretty, but it was a win. Let's enjoy it and hope they can build on it.

I’ll defend him so far this season. We’re winning games, and competing well so far. The big off season question was what we would look like on defense. That, while still needs plenty of work... is showing improvement.
We have three freshmen that are already showing an ability to play the game on both ends.
We have a PG that is leading the team and made big time plays on offense early in the OT period to force the opponent to play from behind the whole OT period. Our defense certainly still needs work. We’re extremely small this year. However, there is vast improvement from last year, IMO.
We look somewhat better, but not in a manner that gives me confidence we can do it game after game. We have almost no size in the post, and I can't see a real strategy that will work over a season to negate that problem. Campbell is better than Johnson and Wales, and worse than UNC. We pulled out the win, and that's good. I was really looking forward to McGrath showing a press tonight to create some energy, some turnovers and develop a strategy which wouuld minimize our lack of size in the post. Instead, Campbell pressed and caused 19 TO's leading to 24 pts.!
Like I said earlier, Davidson is the game i'm waiting for.
I'd sure ike to see us run Dodd and Linssen together a few times. I know McGrath likes a stretch 4, but we had pretty good success with Cacok and Bryan on the floor together.
Funny how someone on here thinks Campbell is smaller than us. 6'10, 6'8" and 6'6" on the floor at the same time doesn't make for a smaller team. Whatever the size though, the problem was they out hustled us. We didn't do a good job of boxing out. And I guarantee that will be a big emphasis in practice.
I'd say let's point out the errors in a slightly more positive way collectively. Hawks did win the the game and I agree with much of what has been said. We do have excellent posters here that really know the game.
