A young dynamic well respected well paid head coach goes to a program in a black hole that is staring down the barrel of both Alabama and now LSU?
Plus being Mike Norvell, the fan base would have an irrational expectation that he would come in and work some miracle.
Honestly, do you look at Arkansas and say “ That’s a championship program that just needs the right coach”? C’mon.
I’m not saying he wouldn’t take it but I just don’t see it as a wise decision.
I could see Norvell going to Miami when that clown flames out or Georgia when Kirby gets the NFL itch or TAMU when the fans get tired of continual 8-5 seasons under Jimbo.
I agree with you, but he came to Memphis. Who in hell would have wanted to come here?

In 2015? A metric sh*t tonne of coaches would have taken the job.

It is very simple. FAMILY. Norvell took the Memphis for the same reason. It was close to family. Arkansas is literally down the road from his family. Do not over think and do not over look the appeal of it.

No, Malzahn is not wanted by all, less than 30 percent have him on top of their wishlist.
Arkansas has incredible facilities across the board, they have been spending mad money on things like nutrition budgets and getting nothing out of it. I liked Mike Anderson and Mike was coasting and at least this AD decided he had enough of just good enough and let Mike go when Mike refused any staff changes. You wouldn't have known there was a game in town this past weekend unless you were on campus. Kinda like Memphis till 5 or 6 years ago. Yet, with any signs of life they'll be 65 to 70k back in a heartbeat.

Memphis job > Arkansas job
Ark has no chance against the SEC west. In recruiting and especially on the field.

Interesting.
Norvell would bring that excitement. If he took the gig.
If.

Seems like Arkansas and Missouri never fit in the sec.
same for A&M, I reckon.

The ceiling for Arkansas is to win 1 of Alabama, LSU, and Auburn and 2 of TAMU, Miss St, and Ole Miss. Three losses at a minimum in a dream season.

RE: Chad Morris fired at Arkansas
Arkansas is the 5th best job in the SEC West, with a fanbase that believes its can be the 2nd or 3rd. As an up and coming coach, that’s a tough situation to step. Since Houston Nutt, Arkansas is averaging a new coach every 3 years, and they bemoaned averageness of Nutt. When the stars align, a program like Arkansas, Ole Miss or Mississippi State can make a run, but history says it is simply not sustainable.
Norvell’s opportunity for one of the playoff caliber bowls is greater at Memphis than it is at Arkansas. He can also make a salary upwards of 3-4 million dollars... I’d be surprised if he left Memphis for Arkansas.

I really need Arkansas to be better in football. When they are good the golf course is empty on Saturday, this season there have been way too many people getting in my way...

RE: Chad Morris fired at Arkansas
I love reading this board. The fact is, with the proper coaching this team of screwups should have 6 to 7 wins right now. This guy has been so far on over his head it is astonishing. Never mind the fact his wife spen her time tweeting about TAMU and his never moving his family here. That was insulting. His leaving the team and flying to Dallas to watch his son play and not be with the team or even "really" recruiting was infuriating.
This dipship has a homerun hitter in the backfield, ripped one off for a 70 yard td in the first quarter and only saw 7 more carries the rest of the game. Our O-line was horrendous, the biggest bunch of Pussycats I've ever seen, yet he wasn't recruiting for the OL. They 5th best in the west line is crap , should be more like a 3 to 4 with a slip to 5th from time to time and that, in the SEC West, is usually top 20 foosball. Lord knows it is not from a lack of resources up here.

So typical Arkansas. Whatever helps you through it all. Five coaches in 10 years, is that right?
Really. Best idea is try to get in the big12 where you can be 5th or 6th overall not 5th in a division.

eh, Arkansas understood its role when they made the move. Stay in the B12, and have some success every now and then, or get more money by moving to the SEC with the understanding that you would become the tomato can b*tch of the west.

Arkansas has never been in the Big 12. They bolted the SWC for the SEC, subsequently, the SWC folded and the Big 12 was born. Get your facts correct. You rarely miss, but you missed this.

So, right now Wayward is saying the team that barely beat Portland State in its opener and was was shelled by WKU on Saturday is just a head coach away from 7-3... not 2-8.
And this is precisely why Arkansas averages a new coach every 3 years...
Arkansas will always trail Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Tx A&M. Of course, there will be blips, but those schools are surrounded by fertile recruiting ground and equally unlimited budgets.

Yeah...Not necessarily if you are comparing apples to apples.
Memphis has to go at least 12-1 to get to a New Years bowl.
I think Arkansas can get in a new years bowl with 9 wins.

Do not forget the hard fought loss to San Jose State this year as well... But ya, a decent coach away from winning the west.
