For those who pay attention, the bracketology, which has little accuracy at this point, has us as a 12 seed against WVU in Bloomington. That would be awesome for me. However, it is interesting that they have JMU in the next 4 out. While they didnt beat anyone of note in the OOC they won, a lot. I still think they are much better than the rest of the CAA but it was fun to see us in the projection and how close their "expert" has JMU to the field. I do not actually believe any CAA team is actually close to an at large, at least not with how the tournament has selected historically.

Yeah, I have zero faith in JMU WBB getting an at-large with their whiffs in the OOC against UVA & Maryland. Nice to see the respect, but it's largely meaningless IMO.

Getting an at-large bid isn't as much about what one team does, but what an entire conference does, and how that one team does against the rest of the conference. I really thought that there is enough talent in the CAA this year that this could be the year that the CAA gets multiple teams in the tournament. But for that to happen, it would have taken a village by the CAA to step up and perform well in their OOC games. That unfortunately didn't happen, and beating other teams in the CAA isn't enough to warrant any at-large bids.

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2019-2020
I mostly agree, however Drexel and JMU had the schedules to make it happen. We both failed.

JMU has an RPI of 44, SOS of 82. Losing to Towson killed the minimal chance they had. SOS of 82 isnt great but not awful either. It means they had chances to win that marquee game. Record against top 100: 4-2 (including Elon), Record against top 50: 0-2

Drexel has an RPI of 86, SOS of 111. I am surprised our SOS is worse than theirs, to be honest. But we had several games with opportunities to beat very good teams and fell just short in every single one. Record against top 100: 2-4, Record against top 50: 0-1

Elon has an RPI of 91, SOS of 59. They had 3 games against ACC teams as well as Marist. They lost all 4 (plus JMU). Record against top 100: 0-6 (including JMU), Record against top 50: 0-2

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2019-2020
Dragons escaped for dear life today with a tight OT win over arch-rival Delaware. They had a chance to break the game open mid-way through the 3rd quarter, but played poorly after that and allowed Delaware back in the game. Delaware got a 3 pointer at the buzzer to tie the game, but Drexel barely won in OT.

Tenth straight win over Delaware.

The CAA is really tight right now. Drexel is in a 3-way tie with Northeastern and JMU for first place at 4-1, while Elon and Towson are right behind at 4-2 and 3-2 respectively.

Meanwhile JMU just beat CofC by 34 in Charleston, where we lost. Glad we are winning but something just isnt right with this team. I still think its JMU's league and everyone else is a distant 2nd.

Yeah, we're kinda Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. We beat UNCW on Friday, but it was a squeaker and just bad play all-around. Couple that with the loss to Towson & I'm very cautious about our chances to break through to the NCAAT with Coach O for the first time.

Huge win for Drexel tonight at Elon as they win their 3rd CAA OT game of the year. Drexel is now tied for first with JMU at 5-1.

Everything is a battle with this team. Its nice that they are winning them, but they are not making it easy, at all. All these battles and OT games will catch up with them. Still a nice win.

Dragons lead wire to wire, except for a few ties in between and beat W&M today at Kaplan. Dragons remain tied with JMU for 1st place, and will have their really tough home weekend coming up against Towson and JMU. Towson is just 1 game back of Drexel.

The CAA is 14th in the Conference RPI, which is down from 10th last season. JMU was snubbed while 36th in the RPI last season.

As mentioned earlier, I really thought that the CAA would be better this year, like at least top 10. Too many teams did not perform as well in their OOC games as I thought that they should have.

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2019-2020
I agree JB. As an update to a previous post that shared the top team's numbers here are the current ones:

JMU- RPI 44, SOS 126
Drexel- RPI 70, SOS 117

Northeastern is at 133
Elon (a previous top 100 has fallen a lot, thanks to losing to Delaware, to 152)
W&M is at 156
Towson is at 178
Rest is sub 200, Hofstra is sub 300

Also interesting to note ODU women's team finally seems to be doing something again (RPI of 32, SOS 132; 1 top 50 win, 2 other wins in the top 100). CUSA isnt good but it is nice to see an old power semi relevant again

Oh snap, ODU is making moves again? Interesting...hadn't paid any attention to them after they hired Karen Barefoot. Knew that wasn't going to turn up roses for them! Looks like they made an excellent hire at head coach.

Figures that Towson would end up being one of the ladies' easiest conference wins so far this season. Odd year so far.

Got dicey in the 4th quarter, but a nice victory. Sunday looms really large (always did since the schedule came out). The turnovers and missed FT's let Towson get far too close, but glad we found a way to finish the game off with our defense getting stops and some timely made baskets.

Impressive scoreline right now. 58-39. Drexel dominated the first quarter and has dominated the fourth.

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2019-2020
Fantastic weekend for the Dragons as they hold on to beat the defending CAA Champions on Friday and then blow out arguably the best team in the CAA today at the DAC. Drexel now in soul possession of first place. This team has so much depth and so many weapons that they are so hard to prepare for. Drexel hadn't been a great 3-point shooting team most of the year, but the last two games have been nailing them like crazy. Earlier this year, we thought that the offense would completely run though Bailey. Now there's a different offensive star every game. Today's star was Washington with 27 points and 6 3 pointers.

Last week's college insiders mid-major poll had Drexel ranked 21st while JMU was ranked 6th. I would think that after this weekend and 8 straight wins, Drexel should climb up the poll, maybe into the top 15.

After scratching out all those close conference games, it is nice to get one of these lightweight teams that we can just blow out.

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2019-2020
we won because we out coached them. jmu just wanted to shoot threes despite a clear size advantage. i have a picture of the entire jmu team taking nothing but jump shots in warm-ups. most of them were taking threes. i've never seen anything like that. it's almost like the coaches tell them to just practice threes. they seemed clueless inside the arc during the game so i guess that's how they want to play...which is sad because they're wasting any advantage they might have.

that all said...they're probably going to hit like 20 threes against us at the caa tournament and blow the doors off us. then again they could be an early out. they'll live and die by the 3.

on top of actually running an offense...coach dillon proved again she uses the non-conference to figure out what she has. sad as it is to say...it was pretty clear hendrixson was hurting us up at bucknell...so she's giving those minutes to connolly who had 11 points in 20 minutes today. i wouldn't be shocked if she got hendrixson turned around by the end of the year too.

washington has a chance to be one of the best point guards we've ever had. we usually just use that spot as a facilitator but she has the athleticism to score herself.
