I was a Dale Earnhardt fan after all of his titles. He win his first Daytona 500 in 1998. During the 1999 Daytona 500, I went to D.C. as a day trip with my mom's longtime friend and her family from Frederick. I'm in D.C. for the first time since then. New York doesn't produce many race car drivers, but Earnhardt was the team owner for Steve Park, who was from East Northport, which is about 26 miles northeast of Hofstra. He was the team owner for his son. I say "he," but I saw the team owner listed as his wife Teresa. He wasn't the team owner for himself.

evanj you are my favorite poster now. i might even root for hofstra tonight.

definitely recommend the rcr museum if you're ever around greensboro/winston salem. i went there the saturday between lehigh's win over duke and their loss to xavier in 2012. you name the famous earnhardt car and it's there. i saw they have a car with an opening door you can sit in so i want to go back.

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2019-2020
UNCW cruised to a relatively easy win over COC today. Drexel beat UNCW twice this year by a combined 3 points, so it's not a team that Drexel matches up with well.

Normally, when a 1 seed faces a 8 or 9 seed, there's some anxiety about facing a team that they should clearly beat. JMU WBB fans were devistated last year after getting upset by Hofstra. W&M MBB fans felt the same way after get upset by Elon the other day. Personally, I don't feel that way. I don't think that this team will be able to get by JMU. In a winner takes all championship game, they just don't match up well size wise, just like the couldn't match up against Towson last year. So hopefully, Drexel can get by UNCW tomorrow and then get by Towson/Northeastern on Friday. However, if they don't, so be it. It will still get them another automatic NIT bid. Good luck Dragons and prove that I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Well dan10, it appears that even if Drexel does win the championship, you won't be going to the NCAA Tournament. Nobody else will be either.

I feel really bad for Hofstra MBB fans, who waited so long for this, and won't be able to attend wherever they play.

I’m waiting for word on the caa tournament. Seems like closing to the public is wise given what major conferences are doing.

Here's the word, hiroshimacarp. Looks like you won't be going to North Carolina either. Looks like the racing museum might have to wait too.

"Following consultation with the league's presidents and athletic directors, it was determined that beginning Thursday, March 12, all games will be played with only essential tournament personnel, band and spirit squads, limited school administrators and student-athlete guests, broadcast personnel and credentialed media members."

that attitude isn't helpful. actually being hysterical isn't helpful either. we don't really need to be at games so what's the harm in keeping fans out? there's a lot we don't know about this virus. it's better to be safe than sorry.

Spirit groups and student athlete guests are still permitted to attend. So there will still probably be about 100-200 in the stands anyway. At least they'll pretty much know exactly who is going to be in the stands since the athletes have a guest list.

Good luck today guys. It's gotta be tough for all teams like ours playing under a cloud of uncertainty, not knowing whether there will even be an NCAA Tournament. My guess is there won't be.

Interesting take. With a mid-major conference, the champion will likely get destroyed in the NCAA Tournament anyway. The question will be asked, how badly does the NCAA need to determine national champions? Is it necessary to even have the tournaments if the fans can't show up. I'm thinking that they will still have them. There is so much TV money in the men's tournament. And if people are home and unable to do anything but watch TV, I think that the ratings will be very good. Therefore, unless there is a risk to the participants, I do think that the tournaments will be held, but maybe not in the same arenas or locations they were originally scheduled for.

It's not even about the fans at that point. There's no easier way to spread a disease than by close contact. Where else is there closer contact (other than the bedroom) than a basketball game?

If they want to say they're putting the "student-athletes" first, how can they possibly continue playing ball when the NBA is shutting down due to one player's positive diagnosis?

it's off. looks like they pulled the teams off the floor 2 minutes for tip. feel awful for the seniors. we're in uncharted territory here so i'm not going to criticize how things were handled. maybe we'll see it in a month or so.

Now I'm glad that the players got to cut down the nets and celebrate last week. Also feel bad for the families of the players who spent a lot of money making the trip down the North Carolina. I guess it comes down to Seahawk Nation's point. If just playing the game is too dangerous because of how easy it is to spread the virus, then I guess it leaves them no choice.

Crazy how the net-cutting that seemed strange at the time is totally a great thing for the team, now in hindsight.

No ****. That is the truth. I thought it was ridiculous, but am glad they got to do so as that now is their only chance.

I feel for Hofstra men and our women who technically earn a bid but wont get to play those games. Guess the cancellation means we now have 2 appearances or at least 2 championships. What a bummer, though the right decision

With all that said, congrats to Drexel and their championship. Thanks for a fun season that ended too early. Now all we can is hope Denise stays.

It's also ironic how the Ivy League was chastised for cancelling their tournament with comments like "I thought these people are supposed to be smart". Now it turns out that they were ahead of the curve, possibly considering how the virus could be spread through athletic competition.

My county has become ground zero in PA for the virus and that's with only about 13 confirmed cases. They are pretty much shutting down all of Montgomery County for at least two weeks.
